We are Equal poster with the painting “Dance” by RD Riccoboni. Color is the first thing you will notice about my work. What makes it “pop” is the placement and texture of color. Placing opposite pigments next to each other fools the eye and gives it definition and mystery. My paint palette, taken from the prismatic colors in the original rainbow flag, which represent sexuality, healing, sun, nature, art, harmony, peace and spirit. / . / Whether positive, humorous, or thought provoking, my work portrays events people relate to while creating a sense of place for the viewer. RD Riccoboni, one of America’s premier artists portraying the gay LGBT community in street scenes and events is an insightful painter who is influenced by a plethora of sights, sounds, colors, textures and emotion. This self-taught artist acquired his drive and inspiration from encouragement given him by family, friends and public school teachers. Riccoboni’s profound love for art and architecture are evidenced in his paintings, landscape and portrait masterpieces; art work that captures the essence of a person’s spirit, the love given from animals as well as the beauty and intensity in his land and cityscapes. We are all equal no matter what laws you create to make anyone otherwise.

The term later began to be used in reference to homosexuality, in particular, from the early 20th century, a usage that may have dated prior to the 19th century. In modern English, gay has come to be used as an adjective, and occasionally as a noun, that refers to the people, practices, and culture associated with homosexuality. By the end of the 20th century the word gay was recommended by major style guides to describe people attracted to members of the same sex. At about the same time, a new, pejorative use was visible in some parts of the world. In the UK, US and Australia, this connotation, among younger generations of speakers had a non-sexual derisive meaning equivalent to rubbish or stupid (as in “That’s so gay.”) The Rainbow flag or Pride flag of the LGBT community (also known as the gay pride flag) is a symbol of LGBT pride and LGBT social movements in use since the 1970s. The colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, and the flag is often used as a symbol of gay pride in LGBT rights marches. It originated in the United States, but is now used worldwide. Designed by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker in 1978, the design has undergone several revisions. As of 2008, the most common variant consists of six stripes, with the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. The flag is commonly flown horizontally, with the red stripe on top, as the colors would appear in a natural rainbow. A t-shirt with a fading rainbow background, many stars and the words Mrs Degeneres, a reference to Ellen Degeneres, the idol of many lesbians and bisexual women! The stars are in black and in white, so if you get a dark t-shirt, the white ones around the outside will show up, if you choose a light t-shirt, the dark stars around the edge will show up, and if you get a medium coloured t-shirt, all the stars will be visible :)

This t-shirt subverts the current usage of the word ‘gay’ to mean something bad, by using it to challenge homophobia against lesbian, gay and bisexual people. It started life as a DYMO label, which I scanned and adapted to make the t-shirt. I turned it into a vector image, then created the t-shirt template design from that. See also: /

Courtesy Wikipedia here Gaydar is a portmanteau of gay and radar and refers to the intuitive ability to assess someone’s sexual orientation as gay, bisexual, or straight. The function of gaydar relies on usually non-verbal sensory information and intuitions. These include the sensitivity to social behaviors and mannerisms; for instance, acknowledging flamboyant mannerisms, overtly rejecting traditional gender roles, a person’s occupation and grooming habits. The idea of gaydar is complicated by gay people not acting in a stereotypically “gay” fashion; also by metrosexual men (regardless of sexuality) who seem to have heightened aesthetic senses and exhibit a lifestyle, spending habits and concern for personal appearance close enough to the stereotype of a fashionable urban gay man. ABC News’ 20/20 reported that gaydar does exist but it may work better for gay people and those who pay attention to issues around sexual orientation because they have more invested in knowing if someone was or was not gay.
