  • An illustration for the well-known story of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, where she meets Mister Caterpillar. Who persists in asking her: “Who are you?” Done with oil pastel on cardboard, details added in with a normal pencil.

  • I hate most people…

  • The ancient stone circle at Callanish on the Isle of Lewis in The Outer Hebrides is over 4,000 years old and one of the oldest such structures in the world. Though smaller than Stonehenge it is considerably older and is awe-inspiring to visit. Normally seen in sunshine, here we have a photograph taken beneath an umbrella as a storm passsed overhead giving this magical place an altogether unworldly quality.

  • A Lego recreation of Lewis Hine’s 1920 photograph of a power house mechanic working on a steam pump.

  • Model – Kate Winton Part of my Alice in Wonderland series “Jabberwocky” that’s been going since late 2004. Very heavily influenced by Anna Gaskell and my own crazy head. / Shot in the Botanic Gardens in Adelaide. Copyright 2008 Harmony Nicholas

  • Seascape image taken at Dail Mhor, Isle Of Lewis. This place never ceases to impress and you can always get an image no matter what the weather. Probably my worse ever trip to the Western Isles in the Outer Hebrides. Virtually no light the whole time, it rained virtually ever minute and the wind was blowing the rain into horizontal direction that made it impossible to get any photography done. / However, this one I did manage to get and was so chuffed with the result. It is a 13 second exposure of the waves crashing into this small cove. Location Info: / Dail Mhor or Bagh Dhail Mor / Nearest Town: Carloway, Isle Of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland / OS Grid: 121600,945145 This is an updated image from the original uploaded. There were several aspects of the scene that needed to be attended to (i.e. a rock cloned out on the extreme left) so I took the plunge and made the adjustments. I think the scene is now stronger due to these adjustments. This image is no longer available as an open edition

  • The best way to appreciate this image is to click play on the above YouTube clip, click View Large and sit back to enjoy! Always spectular at this spot on the most northerly point of Isle of Lewis where the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea meet. The waves that come into these weather-beaten cliffs can truly awesome. / The waves in this image are around 50 feet high and lap the top of the cliffs in places. It was truly a remarkable site that you almost see the White Horses running through the waters. Location Info: / Butt Of Lewis or Rubha Robhanais / Nearest Town: Port Nis, Isle Of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland / OS Grid: 152360,965990

  • Captured freehand in the Blackhouse Museum at Arnol, Isle of Lewis. Smoke from the peat fire in the centre of the main room is caught in the light from the only window. Historic Scotland site The museum is well worth a visit to get insights of what life was like in this typical old stone house. The so-called blackhouses did not have a chimney but the peat smoke rose up through the thatched roof. This had the added advantage of keeping the roof from rotting or rain from coming through. This is my homage to the generations of islanders who lived in these houses. Addtional information from Ranald: “The tar from the peat smoke made everything inside black, hence the name. The beasts were often kept at one end of the house, where the floor sloped down. The heat rising off them kept the smoke away. A very clever system.” Nikon D1X, Nikon 18-70 F3.5-4.5G. • First artwork in a new series I am working on inspired by the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In this iconic image, a beautiful but dangerous Queen of Hearts as femme fatale draws her finger across her throat to signify her threatening intentions. “The Queen had only one way of settling all difficulties, great or small. ‘Off with his head!’ she said, without even looking round.” / -Lewis Carroll, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland “ Original artwork measures 19×25 inches, mixed media on gray Strathmore watercolor paper. This artwork took about twelve hours to complete over a two-day period. View more of my artwork at http://www.lynnetteshelley.com

  • “Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!” Fourth artwork in my new Wonderland series based off of Lewis Carroll’s book “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” In this depiction the white rabbit races against time and against an abstracted background (rabbit holes), his pocket watch on his waistcoat. Original measures 12.5×19 inches, mixed media (oil pastels, colored pencils, metallic paint pen) on light yellow watercolor paper. FEATURED ON THE REDBUBBLE HOME PAGE AUGUST 21, 2009 / View more of my artwork at http://www.lynnetteshelley.com View My White Rabbit Tee! Click here

  • Sixth artwork in my new Wonderland series, based off of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” ”`Well!’ thought Alice to herself, `after such a fall as this, I shall think nothing of tumbling down stairs! How brave they’ll all think me at home! Why, I wouldn’t say anything about it, even if I fell off the top of the house!’ (Which was very likely true.) – “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” Original artwork measures approx. 12.5×19” and was created with oil pastels, colored pencils, metaliic silver pens, and marker. This is a scan of the image, so you can’t see the silver highlights on this piece (they look gray in the scan) through Alice’s hair and dress. View more of my artwork at www.lynnetteshelley.com
