While tootling round the San Rafeal Lagoon in a Zodiac, our intrepid tour party were all lucky enough to see this seal sunbathing on an iceberg. Once back on the Catamaran, I was fortunate enough to get near enough with a long lens to snap his portrait. He appears to be smiling in welcome! We were all cooing and ahhing over this wonderful chance encounter. Little did I know at the time (or any of the others for that matter) that the endearing smile was because his mouth is full of razor sharp teeth – because he’s a LEOPARD SEAL!!! Eek! Northern Patagonia, Chile.

Skye’s popular Animal Rights poem “Animal Decree” features on this meaningful T Shirt design. 25% of all proceeds benefitsthe great US charity Windcross Conservancy, to assist in their ongoing mission to help preserve the valuable pure bloodline wild horses of America! This poem though, pertains to all creatures everywhere. :o-) Thank you for caring.
Leopard Seal enjoying the sunshine at Taronga Zoo
While this may look like the seal is laughing, he’s actually making a threatening display to convince us to move our dinghy further away. The Leopard Seal is a top predator in this environment, feeding mainly on penguins. Location: Andvord Bay, Antarctica / Image ID: A2_015755 / Camera: EOS 5DmkII, 24-105mm

This photograph was taken at Taronga Zoo at the new leopard seal enclosure. Again the light transformed the scene and made me want to click!
