I’ve bought six new IKEA glasses but one of them got broken when I washed it for the first time. Of course, I wouldn’t just throw it away, as well as my daughter couldn’t throw away a Camellia blossom she has found fallen at the ground two days later… / I believe these two imperfect subjects made a perfect combination. What do you think?
She is not a person that would smile all the time. But when she does, even a little bit…
View of Lago di Garda (Lake Garda) from the castle of Malcesine. A silhouette of the castle walls -as well as that of cypresses, so typical for Mediterranean!- is visible in the foreground. Taken in August 2001. Canon EOS 500N, 28-80mm. Post-processing: retouch, sharpening, color. Click here to see more photos from Lago di Garda:
An old lantern next to the entrance to the Virgin Mary Visitation church in Hejnice, Jizera mountains, Czech Republic. I feel that giving light is very symbolic for this place where the pilgrimage roads from several countries cross since the 13th century… February 2002. Canon EOS 500N, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: retouch, blend-modes, color correction, watercolor.
An old bicycle at the old dairy factory Freia, Openluchtmuseum, Arnhem, Netherlands. The steam-driven factory Freia was the first dairy factory in the Dutch province of Friesland, starting its production in 1879 and continuing until 1970. Mountains, just blue mountains! Reaching to the horizon… This is a landscape of my dreams! View from Jungfraujoch, Bernese Oberland, Switzerland. Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn World Natural Heritage . July 2008. Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: retouch (the negative was unfortunately heavily scratched), tonality adjustment, warming filter, distortion correction, watercolor, sharpening.
Scanning old negatives from my archive, I have found a photograph of Cinque Torri (Five Towers) and Tofanas taken very late in the afternoon. I liked the combination of dark clouds and remaining summer haze that made the background looking very flat like in a painting. Just before clouds covered the sun completely, last rays fell on the Cinque Torri, a group of rocks very popular by climbers. To complete the feeling I had about the picture, I’ve applied ‘colored pencils’ filter in post-processing of this photograph. Dolomiti, Italy. August 2001. Canon EOS 500N, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: retouch, sharpening, colored pencils, color enhancement, blend modes. Detail of the image showing the ‘color pencils’ effect:

Prague seen from Petrin Lookout Tower (Petrinska Rozhledna), Czech Republic. More than one year ago, I’ve got fascinated by some overlay works presented in various PS fora. Last year, I found about RB and soon could admire beautiful composite works of e.g. John Edwards here at RB. Inspired by many of those images here at RB or elsewhere, I’ve been planning to put my hands on some overlay work too, but I only got to it in recent days, ultimately inspired by The Wilds Of France by onefourseven (thank you, Mat, both for inspiration and a link to textures!). / This composite is my first result on the theme, composed of my original photograph and three textures from cgtextures.com. Comments and suggestions welcome! Original photograph: May 2008, Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: retouch, BW conversion, curves, sharpening, sepia, color adjustment, shape cut, filter gallery, overlay by three textures from cgtextures.com with adjusted brightness/contrast/levels/color, color adjustment, blend modes; final file: 24 layers, 5540×3693px, approx. 1.5GB, color profile conversion 10min, saving time >5min.
Trümmelbachfälle (Trümmelbach waterfalls) is a unique-in-Europe series of waterfalls inside the mountain. Trümmelbach brook alone drains the whole glaciated area of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau with up to 20.000 liters per second! Take a lift through the mountain and get fascinated by the power of water… Photographing the waterfalls was all but easy: difficult lighting with very high contrast between lit water and dark rocks, long exposures of several seconds, best views being often from bridges trembling due to both tourists’ steps and enormous water masses, omnipresent spray of glacial water and everything wet… Fascinating experience, I have spent two great hours photographing, completely forgetting about the rest of my family… Lauterbrunnental, Switzerland. July 2008. Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135, Manfrotto tripod. Post-processing: retouch, tonality adjustment, sharpening, colorize, crop to square, resize, frames.
Such a mighty stream! No surprise that the waters of Trümmelbach are so powerful; the area this brook drains includes the famous glaciated mountain trio Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau... Lauterbrunnental, Switzerland. July 2008. Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135, Manfrotto tripod. Post-processing: retouch, tonality adjustment, sharpening, colorize, crop to square, subtle frame.
