BEST VIEWED LARGER Caught this at the Sydney Group Meet – Eerie Is’nt it ? The doors of the St Michael the Archangel Chapel (commenced in 1886) . Rookwood Necropolis, at 283 hectares (700 acres), is one of the largest burial grounds in the world and one of Australia’s oldest cemeteries. It has been in continual use since it was established in 1868 and over 800,000 people have been interred within the grounds. The headstones and monuments reflect the history of the colony Of New South Wales and the development of the city of Sydney. The heritage values of the cemetery are protected by an act of Parliament. / / The original 81 hectare (200 acre) heritage area, located in the north western corner of the Necropolis, is subject to a Permanent Conservation Order and represents the largest and one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian public cemetery anywhere in the world. Rookwood was originally designed in the grand gardenesque style, fashionable in the mid to late 19th Century. The brick gutters which defined the ornate landscaping can still be seen, together with the highly decorative monuments and other features including the chapel of St Michael the Archangel and the Serpentine Canal with its elegant ponds, bridges and urns. These were set in formal gardens with rest houses to cater for mourners and visitors This shot was the result of a Sydney group meetup on Saturday 14th June, the site definitely has a feel to it. Ive never seen so many black crows . The site definitely has an atmosphere with graves dating back to the early days of the colony.. In its day there was a rail service with a special funeral train that left from a purpose built station at Sydney’s Central Railway station. Unfortunately the special platforms at Rookwood being demolished, but the “Mortuary Station” still exists at Central Station. you can get an idea what these stations looked like at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regents_Street_railway_station,_Sydney

MARION CHAMPMAN is a wonderful artist and a lover of patterns and design.. Printmaking and experimenting with all kinds of materials and colors.. she really turns my head.. Marion… truth be told.. Kauai is not a very pastel-y place.. so I took my photo and gave it a Marion Wash.. I love this shot..I do not know what this is but I spent some time with this guy..It was a very tall tree and that is how the leaves grow on it.. no branches!! Marion’s Chapman’s Pastels inspired Maddy of Smudge ARt Fame to write a most lovely lovely piece.. My gratitude for the Love here is ever growing.. Thank YOu Maddy! What beauty is this I behold ? / “A feast to ones eye”, I am told. / Leaves wrapped in soft hues. / Colors of gold, red and spiritual blues. “A tree without branches ”, she did say. / Just leaves that enfold it in every way. / Lina sad, this tree amazed me so, / I could not look at it and just let it go. It inspired me until I returned home, / In my minds eye, this is the tone. / I know Creator left this for me to do, / So I painted it gold, red and spiritual blue.
A macro shot of a Canna Leaf after a few cold days.A set of two, goes with “Red and blue” a macro shot of bark. / /
This began it’s life as a black ink A5 illustration on Acid free 110 gsm Cartridge paper… I later coloured it using Derwent colour pencils… / In colour it comes to life… the silhouettes of tiny bugs glow as they swarm around a heart of lush green foliage & exotic flowers…
Black Ink A5 illustration… Toucans flying through a tropical scene… as the sun sets they move in opposite directions… but swirls & twirls keep them joined together…

There will be times when you will be in / the field without a camera. And, you will see the most glorious sunset / or the most beautiful scene that you have ever witnessed. / Don’t be bitter because you can’t record it. / Sit down, drink it in, and enjoy it for what it is!
When things go wrong as they sometimes will, / When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, / When funds are low and the debts are high, / And you want to smile, but you have to sigh. / When care is pressing you down a bit. / Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit. / Life is queer with its twists and turns / As every one of us sometimes learns. / And many a failure turns about / When he might have won had he stuck it out: / Don’t give up though the pace seems slow - / You may succeed with another blow. / Success is failure turned inside out - / The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. / And you never can tell how close you are. / It may be near when it seems so far: / So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit / It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit. Beautiful ancient Paper Bark tree, still fighting for life, after many many years.. I would guess there isn’t much left in the tank. On the banks of Lake Cootharaba, Boreen point, 30 minutes north of Noosa Heads. Part of the Noosa River system. I love the twists of the roots on this, proves she has had a tough life in this paradise! Looking east over the lake, 5:00pm about 30 minutes after sunset. Canon 50D, 10mm. Available large, and definately best viewed large!
The second in the series of Landscapes inspired by another song featuring the word “Softly”...it is also a play on the title of the song, as the sun is also the “I” who is leaving….painted all prima in just two colours and white, in acrylic on Canvas…enjoy the music Softly, I will leave you softly / For my heart would break if you should wake and see me go / So I leave you softly, long before you miss me / Long before your arms can beg me stay / For one more hour or one more day / After all the years, I can’t bear the tears to fall / So, softly as I leave you there Softly, long before you kiss me / Long before your arms can beg me stay / For one more hour, or one more day / After all the years, I can’t bear the tears to fall / So, softly as I leave you there / As I leave I you there / As I leave I you there MUSIC / Softly as in a Morning Sunrise
