On a visit to the Jardin Botanique in Montreal I was captivated by the Chinese Garden. Various ponds and streams had huge floating islands of lily pads. But it was not until I rested that I discovered these two lily pads and the reflections, just over the side of the bench I was sitting on. Taken in macro mode. “Life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences, but rather it is a tapestry of acts that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan.” -from the movie Serendipity Featured in the Abstracts From Nature group July 2008.

Looking through the bus window on the way home, I see this playful movement of light and dark shades, between leaves and branches. It is a moment to be captured. Real image with no additional painting… The light painted it on my camera’s ccd sensor! I have set the camera on manual zoom, manual speed and aperture, so that the motion can be capture on shutter release. Behind the glass window of a moving bus, I hunt for the right angle of sun and the right tree, and follow throught the target like taking an image of a sport player. All about timing and a bit of luck! Love to see critiques and comments. All welcome. The pathway by the side of the pond with its carpet of golden yellow and rusty brown leaves lead you further on your journey. The trees at the path edge stand proud like sentinels protecting your way. Go in safety today my friends; there is no evil to befall you here. Here in the photo it is autumn the trees and shrubs shed their leaves to form a carpet of golden yellow and rusty brown and it will lead you deeper into the woods for a journey to remember. But if we stop to think for just a moment about the whole process of life we get a better picture of what’s to come. As we walk along the pathway by the side of the murky pond we see many of the trees are now naked of their protection, their leaves. In spring the leaves grow and give shade to everything underneath, some flower and the birds live on the seeds then they fly off somewhere and when their food passes through them it lands on the earth and will grow into another tree starting the process off again. The leaves give life to the tiny creatures of the forest, ants; spider’s caterpillars to name but a few and other creatures live on these. Where there is life – it gives life. When autumn calls and the bad weather comes the leaves drop to feed the ground creatures and to feed the earth so other things may grow and live. Living is a cycle, we are born, we live and we die but when we die we help others to live. Isn’t life wonderful?
