This was a photograph of a maple seedling that was taking root in my yard. It always amazes me how quickly these seedlings attach themselves to the earth and grow before you even notice them. Sadly I had to take it down but I took many photographs of it first…................it was so perfect in its early stages of life.
This is a photo of beautiful hillside that I pass nearly every day. I could never catch a picture of this wonderful view, because there was no safe place to pull over on the highway as I was driving past. On this particular autumn evening, all traffic was stopped in a construction zone, just as the sun had disappeared behind the mountains. The last rays of sunlight were only visible up on the hilltop to the east. Thanks to that unexpected traffic jam, I finally got the shot that I had wanted to capture for a very long time. (It really pays to keep you camera at your side at ALL times!) This landscape image was captured from I-180, exactly on the “city line” between Montoursville and Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The photo was shot “handheld” with a Canon EOS 10D camera using a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L zoom lens @ 200mm. The shutter speed was 1/250th sec at f/9.5. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. This Japanese Maple is one of my favorite things. It looks so beautiful in the spring while the leaves are so red. Then they turn mostly green and red again for fall. What a treasure. The wind was blowing and created a blur that looks like fog!

Taken on a blustery morning out in my backyard. These Japanese maple trees are a joy to watch through the year, but on this Autumn morning I was inspired to create a design with the lovely branches and red leaves.

The trees are positively glowing in the warm light of the setting sun at the lake! Rose Valley Lake and the surrounding property is owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, managed by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. This photo was taken just before sunset on Saturday, October 10th, with a Canon EOS 10D DSLR camera through a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L telephoto zoom lens @ 35mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/500th sec at f/5.6. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release. Your comments are always welcome! The last glimmer of setting sunlight was lighting up the autumn trees on the far side of Rose Valley Lake. The very active sky was reflecting off of the water’s surface, creating an abstract image of nature’s atmospheric beauty. Rose Valley Lake is located in Gamble Township, five miles east of Trout Run, in north central Pennsylvania. This reservoir is very well managed by the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission. My family has found this to be a perfect place to watch seasonal meteor showers, because the is no “light polution” from bright city lights here. This photo was taken with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L zoom lens set to 55mm. The shutter speed was 1/250th sec. at f/4. The camera’s ISO was set to 100.
