Tree Branch in swamp…
Featured in RB group “UK Visions” Sept 09 Art from the world of lawns and offices. Artists have always used the materials of their time.. they forged iron and steel. Today many people live and work surrounded by office machinery and it seems right to bring these into the artistic process… as some are already doing. Photocopier poem I like to take a drawing and play about with it.. in this case I put a simple pencil sketch it through a low cost copier ! I like the grainy feel the copier gives this. The original is a pencil drawing and quite delicate this feels quite different. For me this feels a bit like a Warhol… because the FAX process roughens and de-personalises the image. I would put the Mona Lisa through a copier just to see what comes out at the other end. I like the idea that I could FAX this to anyone anywhere and they would receive an original FAXED version. So if you talk to me nicely I might be persuaded to FAX you a copy of this work ! The original FAXED work was on that thin fax paper that darkens with age.. and so it will not last very long.. so in effect this image only now exists on my hard drive and on sites like this. So anyone ordering the online version is getting the nearest thing anyone can get to an original. Ok.. I’ll keep taking the pills. ;)
Leafy Sea Dragon – taken in the wild… none of this photo at the zoo nonsense / :) Photo taken roughly 7 m under water at Rapid Bay Jetty.
A juvenile Leafy Sea Dragon (Phycodurus Eques) under the deteriorating jetty at Rapid Bay, South Australia. Until you get used to it, its very difficult to spot the dragons amongst the weed. They can be regularly seen at a number of sites around Adelaide. Browse By Category / Underwater / Panoramas / Adelaide and South Australia
I borrowed this photo from Sharon Hammond and added some Apophysis layers to it. Check out the rest of her work at http://www.redbubble.com/people/sharon
The elusive leafy sea dragon. After months of diving in places where people recommended seeing one, I finally managed to spot one under the jetty at Wool Bay. Must say, it was one of the best sights so far. Very hard to spot, these guys blend in perfectly with the surrounding weeds (makes it much more satisfying to find them!)
This came from going for a walk around my town and sat down to sketch this with brush pens, then scanned and inverted. I love how it came out. Hope you do too! :) Faber-Castell Brush pens / Scanned and inverted in Photoshop
Leafy Seadragon at Edithburg, South Australia
Ink and watercolour pencil illustration.
Ink pen illustration. Thought i’d upload a straight up b/w version for The Colouring In Book group. / Colour version coming soon(ish). Can you find him?
Like its cousin the Leafy Sea Dragon, the Weedy Sea Dragon is endemic to Australia. This individual is a large female, found about ten metres underwater at Botany Bay, Sydney.
kin to Leafy Green Ladybug
If you have the time – use the “view larger” option – I hope it’ll be worth your time :-) Nikon D80 / 105mm AF-S VR Macro / SB-800 used to backlight this.
In the winter of 2008 a buddy and I drove to Yorkes Peninsula, South Australia to see and photograph the iconic Leafy Seadragons,Phycodurus eques in the wild for our first time. These enigmatic beauties are masters of disguise and blend in so well with the algae that they live amongst. This was one of my very first shots of the first one that I found and it made the 2500km round trip well worth it!

/ There’s an Elephant in my Garden digitally colour version also available (click here) / A sepia drawing before I colour this work…. “there’s an elephant in my garden” Inspired by my parents talk of topiary gardens in Tassie and their topiary teapot in the backyard and my little girl with the curl Sarah, who’s all growed up now (but this reminds me of her when she was a littlun)...thanx Nenek and Poppy….luv ya / / There’s an Elephant in my Garden / a drawing on catridge from my Art Diary / digitally coloured I hope that the grownups who look at this painting will remember something special from their childhood, some hopeful feeling, which will help them through today’s difficulties. There are all the colours of the rainbow in this piece, to remind us that there is always hope, no matter how hopeless it seems sometimes. The rainbow is a sign of hope. Children See/Children Do powerful message for grownups I hope that all the children who look at this painting will drift off into a faraway place in their imagination and feel wonderful for a while, especially if things are getting them down…and if life is wonderful, may this little picture add to the wonder and spark the imagination. Big hello to Maya!! :)
Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 2.5 second, ISO100, tweaked in Photoshop I could not resist adding another shot of the lower falls of Scaleber Force near Settle in the Yorkshire Dales. The huge stones around the falls were very slippy with moss and leaves covering them, it was quite treacherous to get the shot but I think it was worth it! I am having to do my processing on our old laptop until my new PC turns up, I hope the colours and levels look OK, the screen on the laptop is not the best!! Please view large
