On a weekend hike through the woods near Cluj, my girlfriend spotted this leaf suspended on a spider web. The leaf was spinning rapidly in the wind, so it took me a few tries to get the photograph just right.

This rock in, known as Shiroyama (literally means “white mountain”), is located Arasaki Park (Yokosuka, Japan). Yokosuka is a city in Miura near Hayama, the town where I did my internship. Hayama is renowned for the beach and green hills, and this place was just a drive down. Hayama literally means “leaf mountain” in Japanese, and indeed Hayama is full of green mountains. The coast of Yokosuka, Hayama; along with other cities in Miura are popular for their beaches and offer a rich experience with nature. As a child, my treasured stuffed animal (as all children tend to have) was a little squirrel who went on every kind of adventure with me, and my favorite story was about a lil’ squirrel named “Miss Suzy” – written by Miriam Young, and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. I love the thought of the tiny leaf-boat capturing the attention of the denizens of the pond as it passes by en route to a wonderous place. January 10th, 2009 – WOW!!
