. / Featured in The Patchwork October 6, 2008. When we arrive at our cabin up in the mountains, the first thing I always do is open all the curtains on that wall of glass so I can see our magnificent view. Our first snowfall last year included the sight of this lonely leaf, and simply captivated me. I would like to dedicate this to my dear friend Colin, Arrowman, who made a special request that I upload this one!!! Thank you, Colin!!!

Another technical interpretation of the same theme as / And so autumn died The fading bright colours and the blurring of the leaf all represent the end of autumn and the coming of winter. As winter comes, more “white” seeps into the image. You can view all this on the level of the seasons, but it also represent our own faith in life. Whatever I do in art, I always have to smuggle in some symbolism. ;) Unfortunately I was playing around at a low resolution when I created this, so, cards only.

Initially, this piece was about burying dreams. What happens when there’s nothing left but to let go of everything, abandon hope, and walk away to let God do what he pleases… 3 years later, still struggling, I found that a branch had in fact, taken root, with a stubborn leaf defiant against the barren land and winter sky… This piece took 3 years for me to complete. (Its not for sale because, due to size, I can’t get a reproduction that is good enough quality.) My faith holds as resolutely (and defiantly in the face of circumstances) as the leaf. Collage and acrylic ink. The branch is real. The leaf I made.

This is a little bridge in my piece of the woods after the first snow. All is calm and quiet. Even the deer seemed to be walking gingerly – not wanting to disturbed the “peace”. Some may even say that the picture portrays a feeling of “eerie-ness” but for me, it’s just the quietness and serenity. This is why I’d like to do my part to keep nature this way! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada

It is nature’s way to be in a constant state of change…..whether obvious or subtle…each day a new cycle begins…and with every beginning there must be some form of an ending.
