  • Every evening bunches of these Sandhill Cranes land before sunset. I’ve noticed that sometimes a certain group will fly in and get round of applause from the ones that have already landed. They point their beaks up and just cackle for about 5 minutes and then it seems they just dance around for a couple of minutes. Wouldn’t it be nice if our friends did that for us when we came in the door?

  • I recently took a photo of some roses I found on a grave at The Barrow-Upon-Soar Cemetery. They were covered with dew… as if they were weeping, and their delicate colour was like they were wrung out of emotion. When I took the image into photoshop I employed two techniques, one my own, and one Jamie’s, which I have called The Leader Method (he details the process here) – it’s the first time that I’ve done it and it’s actually worked for me! First off, my technique for “antiquing” the roses was applied. This consists of a dulpicate layer of the image which is converted to black and white and then the dark strokes filter is applied to and it is put overtop the original layer using the “multiply” layer blending choice. After that, I Leader Methoded it. Even before I began work on it, this song by Beth Neilsen Chapman came to mind. In fact, as soon as saw the roses on the grave I thought of this song. Please, implore you to read these lyrics. Colour Of Roses – by Beth Neilsen Chapman I held you close to me / Once in a distant dream / Far from the shores of my fear / I sailed on this ocean / Where all I imagined could happen / And now you are here It’s so hard to touch what is out of our hands / To know and to trust what the heart understands Only the ones who believe / Ever see what they dream / Ever dream what comes true Life gives us magic / And life brings us tragedy / Everyone suffers some loss / Still we have faith in it / Childlike hope / There’s a reason that outweighs the cost And gravity throws all these rules in our way / And sometimes the spirit refuses to play Only the ones who believe / Ever see what they dream / Ever dream what comes true Oh Love / Turn me around in your arms / And in this dream we share / Let us not miss one kiss And add my regrets to the tears in the rain / That’s what the colour of roses contain Only the ones who believe / Ever see what they dream / Ever dream what comes true
