I thought I’d share a quick way to blend exposures. / Nothing at all to do with HDR, but more about achieving a more balanced looking image, exposure wise. First off, you will need to bring into Photoshop 2 images shot at least one stop apart via your camera, or RAW processed will do too. / Then, just drag the lighter of the two images on to the darker one, making sure it is stacked perfectly. / Ok, now just go to the top menu and do / 1. Select>Color Range and select Highlights from the drop-down. / 2. Put a tick in the ‘invert’ box and click ok. / 3. Add a Layer Mask, and then click on the Layer Mask to make it active. / 4. Go up to Filter>Blur> Gaussian Blur 250pxls and click ok. / Choose Flatten from the Layer menu up top. / You’re done. / Adjust Levels/Curves to taste if you want. I haven’t displayed any example because I wanted you to try it out for your self and make up your own mind whether or not you think it may be a useful tool to have up your sleeves for future stuff. / If you decide to give this a go, I’d love to know what you think. Good Luck / Peter

  • oil on canvas / super fast painting. I would like to consider this more on the abstract expressionism side. I usually paint with more detail and so may I’ll go back at a later time when it drys and add some more depth. myspace.com/artistmind

  • Time is the most undefinable yet paradoxical of things; the past is gone, the future is not come, and the present becomes the past even while we attempt to define it, and, like the flash of lightning, at once exists and expires. / ~Charles Caleb Colton Stock credits / Station clock here / Texture here Favorited 36 times / 436 views

  • I decided to turn a few of the pics I had published (see here) into pieces for the folio. This is the rear view of Notre Dame, Paris, capital of France. This cathedral resembles a neo gothic castle from this view. I wanted to give this one a historic look, but it has taken on a more fairy tale appearance. I love it when the piece takes over and creates itself! • Best viewed large The Okavango Delta, Botswana, Africa. This body of water is the largest inland delta in the world, and one of the wildest parts of Southern Africa. Many of the animals inhabiting this region have never had human contact and thus, are as carnal as they come. That’s a comforting thought, when you are spending two nights bush camping among this habitat lol! No toilets, showers or indoor areas, aside from our tents. At night time all was silent, apart from the calls of elephants, hyenas, jackals, and what I thought was a train moving in the distance.. turned out to be a pride of lions roaring after they had killed their dinner. By mid afternoon the temperature reached 48 degrees celcius (118F) on our first day. That kind of heat is impossible to escape, with little to no humidity, the only water we had to drink had been turned hot with the heat. Needless to say, tempers flared and people cried. But hey, it was fun! I took this photo as we were being poled across the delta to the island in its centre. We traveled in mokoros, African style gondolas, carved entirely out of one tree trunk. Once on the island we trekked on foot, saw wild elephants, zebras, giraffes and wart hogs. Thankfully no lions, or other members of the big 5 turned up while were in such a vulnerable position. On our first night, elephants almost stampeded our camp site. The matriarch appeared at one end of the camp, stepped on one of our groups tents and was threatened to charge. All I clearly remember was someone scream. Next thing I knew, we were all pushing each other out of the way to run. But run where? We were on the banks of a delta where crocodiles and hippos lived. In the trees were possibly leopards and beyond our camp we knew there were lions. For a brief moment I thought, death by elephant?? We were however, saved by one of our guides, who hurled a flaming log at the elephant, hitting it square on the head. The matriarch stopped in her tracks, stood still for about a minute (felt like an eternity) and retreated. All of us breathed a sigh of relief, till a girl in our group said “elephants never forget”. • The view of Paris, capital of France. Taken from the very top of Sacre Coeur. Earlier today I had a phone call from Dean, asking if I would edit one of my existing shots for him to give to his sister for Christmas. He chose Atop Sacre Coeur, original of which can be seen below. After completing I thought I would add it to my folio. It has been a piece I have always thought about editing, but never actually got around to. I have never added a treated version of an existing piece to my folio, so this is all new to me! Let me know what you think of the two versions :) I edited the piece with a texture from www.deviantart.com free use stock, adjusted the colour and saturation, layered twice. • Notre Dame, Paris, capital of France. Another shot in my Notre Dame series. The original photo has been in my folio since I started on RedBubble, but was never that popular, so I gave it a make over! Original photo has been layered twice, with two separate textures layered over as well, with colour adjustments, slight tweaking of brightness and lowering of contrast.
