Something a little minimal….. I love a minimalist abstract or fractal, there’s just something about them. And you just don’t see all that many minimalistic fractals. To me, fractals don’t always have to be a wild explosion of design and color, there’s a place for the subtle too. I love both ends of the spectrum,,, the fractals that shout & the fractals that whisper. As for this one, I tried to incorporate the negative space as part of the image itself, & not have it just hang there as a lifeless piece of the background. White can be even more unforgiving than black so I gave it a wash of color to soften it & bring it into the image even more. All critiques are more than welcome ! I’d definitely like to know how I can improve on this. You may have to look full screen to see the lines a little bit better, or maybe not. Depending on your screen, monitor & eyesight I guess ! ;-) Created with Apophysis. Lauren

Apophysis…. as always. I really am a fan of the light backgrounds in fractals, they can be hard to work with in as much as white is so much more unforgiving than black, but I really do like the etherealness … is that a word ? ;-) I really like the delicate look to the fractals. Though in this case, as Helene pointed out, the background picked up the color from the image itself & it’s no longer white but has indigo undertones to it which help to soften it even more.

This painting was inspired by a conversation that I had with a friend very dear to me, her name is Lauren. I was much better at making her smile with a picture than I was with words. The painting is in oil on a 18×24 canvas.
