Watercolour on Arches Watercolour paper Winner Section 2 Watercolour/Gouache, King Valley Art Show 2009. The light on the tanks in the background is what drew my attention to this scene. I wanted to capture the sense of brightness, heat and the reality of life for these women in a Lisu village.

This old woman carries her great Grandchildren around and has no problem stepping around the uneven dirt paths that are the norm in her village. Earlier this year she was very sick and almost died. But now there is a sparkle and intensity in her eye again, dont you think?

Always please to meet newbies and greets all with an enthusiastic smile, a shake of the hand and a few “hwa hwa’s” which is “hello” in Lisu.
