LUANG PRABANG …. LAOS
The Akha People are one of a number of Hilltribes living in the Golden Triangle – the place where the borders of Burma, Thailand, and Laos meet. This child was photographed near the town of Kengtung in Eastern Shan State, Burma. Akha ladies are well known for their elaborate headdresses.
This is one of the main temples in Vang Vien, Laos. The temple buildings are beautifully ornate and the surrounding garden is peaceful. On this day however, a number of the monks were busy conducting repairs on the building and, the younger ones especially, were scouting in and out of the windows and up and down the ladder as part of their work. They held a group of us captivated, cameras in hand, with their cheeky expression and playful teasing. I loved the strong contrast of the orange robe against the pink building – I think the colours capture the playfulness of the atmosphere even more than the monk’s expression in this case.

The sun going down made me look like a silhouette, and i think that this is what makes this photo unique. best viewed large

Handcrafted, traditional umbrella’s on sale at the night market in Luang Prabang, Laos. Of course, the only place you see these umbrella’s is in the tourist section. No locals are silly enough to actually try and use them as umbrella’s!

LUANG PRABANG … LAOS
Stayed at a friends house in Vientiane where I shot this from his balcony. His balcony in Laos looks over the Mekong River at Thailand. Every day around 4pm you can hear the beats of drums from the monks on the Thai side reverb with the beats of drums from the monks on the Laos side. Canon EOS 40D More Asia Photographs /
I can still see his serenity and hear his music.
Xe Bang Fai cave near the Vietnam border in Laos is one of the world’s biggest and most spectacular river caves. This shot was taken near the downstream entrance after completing a kayaking trip through the 7 kilometre long river passage. The caver standing on the large rock gives some scale to the chamber. The picture was a several-second exposure taken with an olympus waterproof digital camera.
