La Rue Obscure is the oldest street in the old town of Villefranche sur Mer on the French Riviera, between Nice and Monaco. It was built on virgin soil at the beginning of the 13th century. La Rue Obscure formed the basis of the rest of the town’s construction on the slopes rising from this coastal lane. It gave inhabitants of the town certain refuge against possible attacks. The ship captains who were forced by storms to anchor in the bay, could make necessary repairs in safety. La Rue Obscure also welcomed precious merchandise, such as wine, in its cellars.

Lorraine Creagh nominated this image for the Pay it Forward group. / Here’s what she said about this image: I love the feeling that I get with the image. Loneliness, peace and age. I wonder how many people have sat on those benches in contemplation. The colouring and aged treatment that Kimberly has given it works so well for this shot Thank you Lorraine, you are a sweet friend! I finally bought a simple macro lens for my new camera and this is my first official macro shot I’m adding. This is actually tiny (about 3-4cm or just over 1 inch) dried up piece of twisted grape vine I picked off the fence with a water drop which was reflected by the sun. It’s definitely different to my usual work but why not?! It reminds me of a lantern..

Found in a dark old shed at Fagan Park – I’ve been back twice to try and get better shots but no luck, so I’ve worked on a compromise. Played up the contrast between the red lantern and dark surrounds, and gave it an old textured look. / Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM / /

So once upon a time, there was little girl who wanted her aunt to make her a picture of a “Snow Queen.” After making just such a request, the aunt replied more or less with “Sure!” And then went on merry way having art block and other fun things and the painting really never was taken care of. Then one day, the evil step mother (who wasn’t evil and also wasn’t a step mother) informed the aunt that the little girl was growing impatient because, after all, “What’s so hard about drawing a snow queen?” Feeling guilty, the aunt sat down and started drawing. And this is what came out. She’s still not sure why there are glowing fish in the frozen pool but her art block seems to be ended and Evil Stepmother (you know, the one who’s not really a step mother…or evil) assures her the niece will love the painting. So they all lived happily ever after. THE END
