  • Went on a little stroll around the city today to shoot a couple of laneways with Flamegirl for Laneway Magazine who requested some shots of this little spot. This is the same lane as shot in my Hosier Lane but up the other end facing the other way :D I’ve been using HDR sparingly lately but it helps to bring out so much character in these laneways that I simply can’t resist. This is also one of my first goes experimenting with the square format too! / Settings Canon 5D, 17-40mm f4 L USM. FL: 17 mm 1/160th of a second @ f4 (Multiple Exposures), ISO 800 No Filters Adobe Lightroom 2, HDR in Photomatix Pro & Stitched together in Adobe Photoshop CS4 Click here for my other images of laneways and graffiti Click here for my other images of Melbourne

  • Another one of Melbourne’s many laneways. Soon as I took this, i was reminded of life in the late 70’s / early 80s by the building at the end of the lane. Using texture layering and colour altering in photoshop, I was able to take the photo back in time, to an old jacket pocket, where it had been left, crumpled and forgotten for decades. As usual, all my endeavors to find the right texture for this took place in the wee hours of the night. Finally finishing it at 2am. • Another image from this weeks late night stroll in back alleys off of Hosier Lane, in Melbourne’s CBD. The varying lighting and shadows helped to create mood which varied dependent upon the angle and direction of the shots. Quite eerie and daunting shooting this series alone, next time I must get someone to come along!!!!! This is a three shot HDR converted in Photomatix, shot with a Canon 400D – 17-85 lens. Want to see some other great shots of this place then visit Alistair Wilson’s link in the comments section…............. /

  • The interior of one of the small rustic looking cafe / restaurants in Degraves Street, Melbourne. The lane way is crammed with cafes and restaurants, with tables and chairs packed to capacity down the centre of the lane. European influence has a lot to do with why this hidden feature of Melbourne city ended up this way. I don’t think I have ever walked down Degraves Street and seen it empty. Places like this are the reason I love living in Melbourne so much. Bit of colour blanching and lightening of contrast, all done in photoshop. Original photo slightly cropped (to remove an mac book from the view!) Title inspired by Beth Orton’s song of the same name. Sold as a greeting card Featured in The Male Photographer / Featured in Object Studies & Concepts / Featured in Color Altering Top 10 in Song Titles Challenge / Top 10 in Win a Bubble Blurt Photographer Of The Month Listing Canon 50D / 18 – 55, 58mm / f4.5, 1/13, ISO 1600

  • Another one of Melbourne’s magical lane ways. This one runs between Bourke Street and Little Bourke Street. I love the industrial urban grunge this one has. The graffiti on the bin in the foreground reads COOKIE, as the building at the end of the lane way is The Curtain House, a multi level building housing Cookie, The Toff In Town and the Rooftop Bar & Cinema (in summer). This particular lane had a dark feeling to it. Although not overly dirty or strewn with rubbish, I could imagine the underbelly of Melbourne meeting here for some illegal operation. Do we have assassins in Melbourne? If we do, I’m sure this would be the perfect crime scene! Featured on the Home Page / Featured in Tunnel Vision / Featured in Beautiful Garbage Top 10 in Cross Process It Challenge Canon 50D / 58mm, 18 – 55 / f5.6, 1/25, ISO 1600 Multiple layering of the same image, one b&w, one colour, one colour high contrast to achieve this.
