This location is in Algonquin Park at my favorite campground, called Achray. This is one of the more remote sites, the only one that permits camping at a home base and tripping out into the park. It’s a great place to canoe and paint.

This scene was captured on the road heading north from Vancouver up through the reservation toward Pemberton, in British Columbia. I am an avid canoeist and while working in Vancouver in 2002, went out on weekends looking over lakes in the region. IIn this case I painted this using Artrage with a tablet and stylus,. which I personally find to be the best for print oriented textural painting. / Starting on a red oxide and raw sienna base wash, the overpaint was applied impasto, allowing the hot base to peak through. This is to emulate the way I like to work on location when doing thumbnails on raw wood panel.

Taking a Visit back to Qld to visit my Parents the weather was not on my side with rain for all four days I was there, but on the last morning, I got up at 4am and went down to the water front and tried my luck and it turned out to be a glorious morning!!
