Taken from the Snake River overlook in Grand Teton National Park, Wy. The tallest peak, The Grand Teton, was stuck in the clouds for most of the day. It only peaked through for a minute right as the sun was setting behind it. / ........ / All images are © Nolan Nitschke. You may not use this image in any way without written consent from artist. This landscape rose up before us on our way toward Lusk, Wyoming. The full moon was spectacular and when we came over a hill on the highway I saw this bluff and begged my husband to pull over so I could take a few pictures. Because it was nearly dark – of course – I needed to use my tripod and where we stopped was not exactly out of the way of traffic. My first attempt at taking the picture was foiled by the flashing hazard lights on our suburban. I thought my husband would lose it when I asked if he could please turn the lights of the truck off completely for a few seconds but he patiently complied and this was the resulting image. /
Taken upon the great landscapes within the Grand Teton National Park. With no foothills obstructing your view, the jagged peaks and deep canyons of the Teton Range rise abruptly from the broad, flat valley of Jackson Hole. / / / /
During a trip to Yellowstone we made the drive through Beartooth Pass. We got caught in a blizzard at the top of the pass. The snowstorm resulted in a few nice images though. This is one of them. Following this road leads you to a junction where you can head east toward Cody, WY or into the NE entrance of Yellowstone. Beartooth Pass has been featured in the following groups: COUNTRY ROADS / Around the World, Landscape Photography Canon EOS 20D / SIGMA 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM / 3-exposure HDR
This place…secluded…alone…in the desolate prairies of Wyoming. Somebody’s dream….their first home….raising kids and trying to make it off of the land. And now the dreams are faded…..people moved away. Too hard to make it out here….but still beautiful, even when abandoned. / *Orton effect by Don Miguel
Photo taken at the Grand Teton National Park Wyoming An ethereal mountain landscape where jagged peaks tower more than a mile above the Jackson Hole valley, Grand Teton National Park is located in northwestern Wyoming just south of Yellowstone National Park and just north of the town of Jackson. Visitors can reach the park through U.S. 191. The park’s mountain range is very popular among climbers, hikers and photographers. The Tetons are a prime example of fault-block mountain formation. When the earth’s crust cracked along a fault millions of years ago, the Tetons rose into the sky. The exposed crystalline rocks give these mountains their dramatic appearance in any season. The Grand Teton rises to 13,770 feet above sea level and 12 other peaks reach above 12,000 feet elevation. Photo taken by Canon IXUS
Taken from the window of the rolling tripod. / Scary skies all day through Utah and Wyoming. This looks to me like a landscape of a far off planet. As is
This famous and ancient tree is off the road, and you have to know how to find it out on the sage flats of Grand Teton National Park; it is such a venerable old soul, it’s worth making the trek. Camera: Canon 10D, 1/8, f37, borrowed tripod. Featured in The Great Outdoors group, August 2009, thanks so much!
Yellowstone National Park offers surprises at every turn; the wildlife usually draws me there, but there is so much more… strange and beautiful thermal features, sweeping and also intimate landscapes, weather changing at every bend in the road. Canon 40D, Canon 100-400 IS Zoom, Manfretto 3001BPRO tripod, Markins ballhead, f 18, 1/400, focal length 100mm. The intense blue contrasted with the white, and the reflection in the water caught my eye. Taken in central Wyoming. Published in DIGITAL PHOTO magazine. There exists a whole row of abandoned buildings along Mormon Row, a phtotgraphic delight, if you don’t mind sharing it with a whole bunch of other photographers ! Deservedly popular , backed up as it is by the amazing Teton mountain range. The town of Jackson is nearby. / The Mormon people were evicted when the National Park was created. I decided to give this the HDR and Orton treatment, to bring out the texture of the wood, and add a little drama to the scene. Shot on my Canon EOS 40D,mounted on tripod, polarising filter, iso 100, f22, 1/30 sec, cloudy WB, RAW file, processed in Photomatix, with further adjustments in PS CS3, and a little Orton applied. Finished with LAB colour to oomph it up a bit ! Wiley at the top of Scotty’s Ridge, one of our favorite hiking trails. This ridge overlooks the town of Jackson, the trailhead is literally across the street from my condo. Every day when I wake up and take Wiley out, I express my appreciation to the universe for landing me here in this wonderful place! It comes with special challenges for me sometimes but I wouldn’t change a thing. :o) Taken July 4th, 2009.
Taken in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. Driving along the park road early one morning, there was a small dip in the road where the early morning mist had lingered. I frantically shot as much as I could, knowing it would rapidly vanish with the sun getting higher in the sky. It was so unbelievably beautiful, I felt like I was dreaming ! / A very magical five minutes that is forever etched in my memory. / The tree skeletons are relics of that huge fire in the Eighties. I shot on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, polarising filter attached, iso 100, Auto WB, f22, 1/15 sec, RAW file processed in Adobe Camera Raw, then CS3, with selective levels and curves adjustments, also selective colour. Other than that, the shot kinda took itself ! What a treat to be shooting these famous peaks and NOT be standing in snow that’s hip deep! This is one of the less photographed vistas of this famous trio. The Popo Agie River near Lander, Wy, disappears dramatically into a cavern, runs underground for one quarter of a mile, and then reappears in a picturesque, calm pool called “The Rise”. This water is teeming with huge hungry trout… sorry, no fishing, but there is fish food available if you have change in your pocket… and provides a stunning mirror for the fall color in September. Another image from Yellowstone National Park , Wyoming, on our holiday from last Autumn. (2008) / West Thumb Geyser basin is on the shores of Yellowstone Lake, and is a kaleidoscope of colours, like Mother Nature went crazy with Photoshop !! Boardwalks go in various directions, and it is a hard choice, which way shall I go ??!! I chose to ‘follow the light’ / and Mother Nature gave me a helping hand with a sky straight from my dreams ! / I hope you enjoy this one ! Moulton barn on Mormon Row was one of them. I stopped by the barn a couple of times, took some shots and my many visits finally paid off when I saw a buffalo herd grazing peacefully very close to the barn. I waited a little bit for them to come close enough so I could take some shots with them and the barn. / This beautiful, old homestead brings memories of the past but a wild buffalo roaming free makes it even more special. Taken in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. Pretty much a tourist snapshot of the Falls, which I thought I would share with you ! / A rather crowded place, justifiably so, who wouldn’t want to see this sight ? The Canyon has some amazing colours, and I found the best time was towards evening to be viewed at it’s best. The vertiginous slopes are very loose and crumbly, and I wondered how those trees maintain their perilous foothold !!
