  • Sgwd yr Eira means ‘Fall of the snow’. This ancient gorge can be found in the ‘Waterfall Country’, Brecon Beacons national park, south Wales. The ‘Waterfall Country’ is situated in a triangle formed by the villages of Hirwaun, Ystradfellte, and Pontneddfechan. It includes the head waters of the rivers Nedd, Mellte, Pyrddin and Hepste. These rivers drain the old red sandstone mountain ranges of the Fan’s in the north and travel south through the deep V shaped wooded valleys the rivers have formed in the carboniferous limestone of the southern belt of the national park. Over 200 special species of mosses, liverworts, and ferns can be found in this area.

  • Yamba is a town at the mouth of the Clarence River in New South Wales. The first European to visit the area was Matthew Flinders, who stopped by in Yamba Bay for six days in July 1799. The town economy is strongly based on fishing and tourism, but has a diverse range of influences. Due to the ‘Sea Change’ phenomena and the large amount of baby boomers who are starting to retire to the warmer northern climates, Yamba is experiencing further growth particularly in service industries. At the 2001 census, Yamba had a population of 5,621, but as a popular tourist destination, it can triple its population in the holiday period. At present the population is growing at a rate of 3% pa. • Taken in Mungo National Park – NSW – Australia. Took the long drive up to Mildura in the northern part of Victoria for my cousins engagement party and thought that I would also take the opportunity to drive out to Lake Mungo, where stand the “Walls of China”. Ancient clay formations from a time when the climate in the sub-desert region was substantially wetter. Within the clays lie fossil remains which achaeoligist say are the remains of some of the earliest settlers in Australia. The drive is relatively short from Mildura, about 1.5hrs. But most of the drive is on unsealed and corrugated roads, unaccessable when wet. If you get the chance to go, make sure you tell someone your plans and take plenty of water as temperatures in summer exceed 40C (104F). There is no mobile phone coverage and very little water. Focal length: 11mm / Exposure: 10sec / ISO: 100 / Lens: Tokina 11-16mm

  • I was off to take some photographs of some waterfalls in the Breacon Beacons in Wales when I almost missed this scene. Had there not been a break in the cloud I may have missed it. It was probably the best drive by shooting photograph I have to date. Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 27mm, f/8, 1/60 sec, ISO 400. No filters used and mounted on the car door. A small amount of dust and scratches removed in photoshop.
