Deep in the Weald, three trees line the path, paying little heed to the walkers passing by. /
This is a shot taken in Spring of the bluebells that carpet the floor of the Weald. I remember playing In and Out the Dusty Bluebells as a child at school. I wonder if it is still played anywhere today? In and out the dusty bluebells: All but one of the children stand in a circle, hold hands, and then lift them up into arches. The remaining child weaves in and out of the arches to the tune of In and out the dusty bluebells, In and out the dusty bluebells, In and out the dusty bluebells, Who shall be my partner? The child then stops and stands behind one of the other children in the circle. While they all sing the chorus, the child behind taps on the child’s shoulder in front. Tippy tippy tappy on your shoulder, Tippy tippy tappy on your shoulder. Tippy Tippy tappy on your shoulder, You shall be my partner. The child behind then gets hold of the second child’s waist, and they weave through the arches together, with the remaining children cloing up the circle. Thetwo then pick a third child at the chorus, and so on, with the line getting longer and longer until the last two in the circle foorma an arch, one gets chosen as the last partner and the last child starts a new game in the middle. How simple life was then.

Background Information: / Monument Valley is located on the southern border of Utah with northern Arizona (around 36°59′N, 110°6′W). The valley lies within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation, and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163. The Navajo name for the valley is Tsé Bii’ Ndzisgaii (Valley of the Rocks). / The area is part of the Colorado Plateau. The floor is largely Cutler Red siltstone or its sand deposited by the meandering rivers that carved the valley. The valley’s vivid red color comes from iron oxide exposed in the weathered siltstone. The darker, blue-gray rocks in the valley get their color from manganese oxide. / Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Appearances include movies, such as Westerns by Director John Ford, and science fiction movies such as Back to the Future III; television appearances as in MacGyver; as well as DVD covers, book covers, and video games such as the Playstation 3 video game Motorstorm. source: wikipedia The Watchman / Moraine Lake / Banff National Park, Moraine Lake / Bryce Canyon National Park, The Lonely Tree / Purden Lake / Sunset in Tofino / Bryce Canyon National Park / Grand National Park, Hazy View /
The defensive Tower house of Smailholm, just over the Scottish border, near Kelso. The tower was built in the mid 1400’s at a time when lawlessness and violent bands of reivers, ravaged the lands both sides of the English-Scottish border. And a solitary white swan, resides below the Tower Even today, the landscape is lonely, and you can easily imagine the starkness of those dark days. Dreary dull, grey, original digital photograph. / Lots of photoshop layers and borrowed sunset from my bonny Northumberland, Budle Bay photo. Inversion and refining with digital painting….. it would have been easier to conventionally paint this!!
This is the main cascade of Scalebar Force near Settle in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, England. Well been away from RB for a week but will catch up with all the work I’ve missed from you all. I took this shot last night and got frost nip in the process, so my finger tips all felt like they had been smashed with a hammer, can still feel it a bit today, I’ve already been told off for not wearing gloves ;-) / It was really beautiful and worth a little pain. Taken on Mt Wellington Tasmania facing west to distant mountain ranges.
The perfect place to sit and watch the sunrise and clearing mist over the beautiful tweed valley in the scottish borders… See also morning glow and mist in the valley I hesitated to post this one earlier but it does rather combine two of my favourite things…. cheers and comments most welcome.. cheers ;)) (ps tried a b&w but am really hooked on these soft tones…) Taken with an old nikon coolpix 4800 / f/2.7 / 1/46sec / ISO-50 / 6mm
This shot was taken from the Patio at the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff Alberta. What a lovely place to sit for a drink!
Jackson Bay, West Coast, South Island, New Zealand. / I spent four days out on the coast, waiting for a sunset. All that happened was rain, untill the last day and there was a small gap in the clouds. / Nikon D200
The Moulton Barn, Mormon Row, Teton National Park, Jackson, Wyoming, USA. I got up early for this one, I had travelled thousands of miles to see it, had only one morning to get my shot in the bag – and what did I find ? / A film crew shooting an advert ! Along with a battalion of other photographers, I was champing at the ‘bit’, since we weren’t allowed to shoot in case we captured the models – male and female – the whole darned thing was so artificial !! So, when there was a lull in shooting, I crept under a bush and hastily ‘snapped’ my shot. Maybe I should pursue a career in the ‘Paparazzi ??!!! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D with polarising filter attached, mounted very hastily on my tripod, Canon efs 18-55mm lens set at 45mm, underexposed by half a stop, f 27, 1/20 sec, auto wb, iso 100, RAW file developed as much as possible in Adobe Camera Raw, then in PS CS3, selective Levels/Curves, saturation of colours achieved with LAB colour, then the tiniest amount of Orton applied, to ‘pop’ the textures of the wood and grass. We spent a weeks holiday in this area, and the weather was pretty poor most days, I had a hard time pulling anything good out of my Canon 40D !! / However, on the last morning, I woke early to a glimmer of light, and planned to shoot the early morning light falling on the Summer Isle. Of course, that didn’t work out, so feeling despondant, drove around the corner to turn around. / Glad I did, for less than five minutes, the light played ball ! / I knew I couldn’t shoot for a conventional shot, far too much contrast with those sunbeams, so I settled for a three – shot , hand-held, HDR image. There wasn’t time to set up the tripod, but I didn’t need it, since great depth of field was not required on this occasion. Luckily I had my IS ( image stabilisation ) lens already fitted ! The light rapidly disappeared under a big blanket of cloud, which remained with us in the North West for over a WEEK !! / It was however, a magical moment, filled with adrenaline ! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D, Canon 17-85mm f4.0-5.6 IS USM lens set at 79mm, 0EV, -2EV, +2EV, RAW, iso 100, cloudy wb, then processed in Photomatix, and further enhanced in Adobe Photoshop CS3, where I had to do some more selective Tone Mapping, in particular the moorland, where I wanted a little ‘pool’ of light. I also helped along the sunbeams with a subtle use of ‘dodging and burning’. / LAB colour was also employed, gently. The ‘warm up ’ photo filter was also used in Layers, and eradicated from areas not required by using Layer masks and painted out. / The result was what I had in my mind when I saw the scene, and could not be described as a true record of the scene before me. / This is the Digital Age, let us enjoy it, and use it to advantage !!
