It is also opened as required for shipping. FACTS & FIGURES Length: 369 metres. Original construction of present bridge cost GPB 112,500. Fourteen spans make up the bridge, Australian Ironbark timber is used on 12 spans, while the two central swingspans are constructed from steel. The base weighs 6,800 tonnes, is 13 metres in diameter and 19 metres deep with 10 metres lying below the harbour floor. The swingspan weighs 1,000 tonnes. It is supported on a base made from concrete and yellow block sandstone that was sourced from Pyrmont. It takes approximately 60 seconds to open. / It opens fully to 83 degrees. / It is driven by the original two 50Hp 600V DC General Electric type 57 electric motors. / Manual drum-type General Electric tramway controllers are used to drive the motors. / Power was originally drawn from Ultimo Power House (now Powerhouse Museum). / Bridge openings are required for vessels seven to 14 metres in height. For taller ships, but only on special occasions, the Monorail beam is opened with the bridge.

The colours of the sunset here are tremendous. It is a pleasure to watch the changing colours long after the sun sets, the lights come on and all the other sunset watchers leave (before the best bit!!!). This is the second night we spent in Derby. I have also uploaded the shot from the first night but can’t decide which I prefer. The colours were different on the two nights due to fire in the area.

This is Violet aged 15 years old. She works in the fields from sunrise to sunset. Her Parents are dead. Violet works the small plot of land hoping to grow enough food for herself, her three younger brothers and sick Grandfather. she has a disability caused by Rickets, a disease that is common here. Her upper and lower limbs are bowed outwards. Yet Violet must force herself to work, or her dependants will starve. Please help us to help her and many more like her. This poem was beautifully written by a very talented poet and Writer called Adgray. God Bless you for wring this fitting piece . Does she dream of dancing and movies and fun / this girl with the faraway eyes / Has she the wish to kiss Brad Pit / Did she cry when Heath Ledger died? / What does she wish for when Christmas comes? / an ipod or mobile phone? / Does she complain there’s no chocolate again / in the fridge when she gets home. We complain we don’t have enough to survive / Money to cover our bills / and purchase the service and goods we desire / AND the luxury home in the hills / But where does it say life must be this way / That we have and she has not / That our world be of greed luxury and games / and hers of pain and hard lot. I look in the depths of these faraway eyes / and I think of my own teenage life / How I struggled with that I was expected to do / and rebelliously got into strife / I look at my own daughter of fifteen years / And know how I fiercely protect her / I support all her learnings and all her dreams / and use all my wisdom to guide her. But they are similar these girls far apart / for my daughter also cares for her home / She looks out for her younger siblings as well / and is rarely allowed to roam. And I wonder if having is really a curse / for to have not enough creates stress / equal to that of not enough food / but granted the consequence is less I shall show all my children these faraway eyes / for this girl is also one of their peers / their ages are similar their wants must compare / how I long to abate all her tears / I cannot succeed in my western world life / I struggle myself to survive / But oh how I wish I could lavish life’s gifts / On those beckoning faraway eyes. The Sturt Desert Pea is a beautiful wild flower that grows in outback Australia. The Original painting has sold, but not without a story. I had some people come into my gallery saying that they were wanting a painting of Sturt Desert Peas. They said they couldn’t find one anywhere in Broken Hill. My husband kindly offered for me to paint them one. They said they were leaving town in two days and could I have it finished by then? My husband said ””””not a problem”””” – he is a great beleiver. I was not so convinced, but I said I would try. I worked all evening, all the next day and evening until I was satisfied and pleased with the painting. They were due to pick the painting up the next morning. They never came back. Lesson learned: When it comes to Art people are fickle. Always get a deposit and don’t trust their enthusiasm. Always try and do the right thing by others, but don’t expect others to do the right thing by you. Getting angry at others letting you down isn’t worth the energy. / Whoever buys this print, please remember that rich beauty can come out of trying circumstances. The Sturt Desert Pea is a living example – immense beauty growing in the harshest environment. A Stormy Autumn Colorado’s Longs Peak shrouded in Autumn thunderstorm clouds, stands towering above the quaking Aspen below. This scene was really something to see….the atmosphere was just to die for. The way the contrast played out with the yellow and gold Aspens against that dark sky was astonishing, the light was really changing fast so I had to be fairly quick while shooting this. Processed in HDR, let me know what ya all think! / —-John

This wonderful old dodge car was free to ride in to take in the sites of Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement. Swan Hill Victoria Australia. built in 1963. next to the Murray river. / Trudi and I and our partners spent a day here, it was a three and a half hour drive there and then home again.. what a wonderful day we had. / stepping back to see how people lived in inland Australia from 1830 to 1930. / we had a ride in the horse drawn cart, which was also free, this gave a different view to the town. It was founded in the year 1074 by Archbishop Gebhard of Salzburg and is thus the oldest extant foundation in Styria. The Admont Benedictines attempt to live by the Rule of St. Benedict (“house rules” for a monastic community), which through its breadth and depth has achieved much of important over the centuries and indubitably offers orientation for the future. The rhythm of their life is stamped by prayer, the fulfilment of manifold tasks in pastoral care, education, culture and in social areas and through the personal deepening of their lives. In this God is always the central point. This is especially true of the life style of the Admont Benedictines whereby the church is seen as the centre of the foundation. In addition to serving 26 parishes, the Monastery runs a nursing home in Frauenberg, a secondary school and further businesses which have roughly 500 secular employees. The main cultural attraction of the Monastery is the Baroque library and the new large museum. Nearness to God and the faith that determines the life of the monks can be felt throughout the whole Monastery grounds. This is also true of the library and museum and equally for the gardens around our house. Thus Admont Monastery is a spiritual, cultural and economic centre of important far beyond the region.
