  • The Vigilant When no land was secure, this stone-made giants assured that the next day wouldn’t be made of captivity and suffering. Strategically placed, these strongholds were the ones who held a country’s name and honour during times of war. Fortunately we are in times of peace, and it’s amazing to step on the luxurious grass, and hear the wind while gazing such gorgeous castle. I can hear the church’s bells far away, a child laughter near, and the sound of the sheeps right in front of me. Yet… the sense of respect is omnipresent, and the scent of bravery still lives here… This is Castelo do Lindoso in the north of Portugal, on Serra do Gerês. José Ramos

  • A Summer landscape in Holland

  • Staying at a hunting lodge in Chester I marvelled at the way their livestock was portrayed on the walls, thusly set about with my attempt of the pride of Chester, a robust almost larger than life sheep…

  • This creation has been inspired by the Traditional Irish Song : Skibbereen. I focused here on the old and happy times while they where living in Skibbereen, in Dear Ireland. / It’s like an instant shot of the father’s memory, when he was happy, he remembers the good days when his wife was alive. / We all have photographies of people we love. That’s what i wanted to show here, a positive touch while the song is so sad! . Yet sold 1 poster and 1 card of this creation. My gallery is Copyright © Wandering Soul. • View from the top of Cademuir Hill on along the John Buchan Way from Broughton to Peebles in the scottish borders. This ascent was optional in the 14 mile walk but who could resist the chance to stand looking down the valley on the site of this old Iron Age hillfort with its defensive line of jaggy stones (possibly called ‘chevaux-de-frises’) sited in such a way as to be invisible to an attacking force until they breasted the rise and were among the stones…. A closeup of these rocks can be seen in this great bubble jeopardy game here The legendary King Arthur and the wizard Merlin are associated with the area too.. Arthurs kingdom extended from Cornwall right up to Scotland and he’s reputed to have fought a battle in this area which would have been occupied at that time by local tribes after the Romans departed. More fascinating details especially regarding Merlins end can be seen here And another view from the hillfort as the weather blowings in from up the valley… / / / /

  • Rainy Day – walk / Amersfoort NL – Heiligenbergerbeek NS-hiking path (Dec.9, 2008) Going for a hike is a favourite pastime in the Netherlands. No wonder that so many hike-routes are described and signed, so that it is easy for people to follow the route. / For me personally: nothing as inspiring as picking up my camera and gear, and setting out for a hike, be it here right in my own neighbourhood, or a little further away… With the camera in hand, I discover beauty with every step I go! :) These pics were made during an early morning winter walk in Amersfoort the Netherlands – Two weeks before the “Frozen world – walk”, Stephan, a photographer friend and myself the first part of this same hiking path… Most of it in the streaming rain… :( The dikes are such a typical feature in the Dutch landscape… often, large parts are fenced, so that sheep can roam freely on them… :) When the sheep doomed up before us on the path, surrounded by these majestic oaks, it felt to me as is we were walking into another world all together, another realm… Misty, wet, dark and moody weather, but awesome scenery… Hope you still enjoy… (we did!) ;) ... Photograph made with Pentax K10D camera and Pentax 18-55 lens – Exposure 1/45 sec, focal length 55, ISO 400 – no flash / Comments and feed-back always welcome. Thanks for looking :)
