Here a semi-silhouetted hiker walks the Delicate Arch elevated trail in Arches National Park in southern Utah, USA on a hot summer day. Wearing only shoes and shorts attests to the heat of the day. He also carries his camera in order to record the vast beauty around him.

You can find more than arches in Arches Nat’l Park. These statues of colorful stone were not only numerous, but every bit as interesting and grand as their counterparts for which the park was named.

The sun was going down behind the towers and formations caused by millenia of erosion in southeastern Utah, USA, creating grand silhouettes. This particular one, “Balanced Rock” in Arches Nat’l Park, was made more painting-like than photo via Photoshop CS2’s posterization filter.

Here is a view of Delicate Arch in Arches Nat’l Park, Utah, USA. To make the image more artistic I added a watercolor and posterization filter to give it a painterly look via Photoshop CS2. You can see a lone tourist nearby sheltering herself from the heat with an umbrella.

Here is a view of Delicate Arch in Arches Nat’l Park, Utah, USA looking out from beneath and in the shadow of another arch nearby. You can see the textured stone up close in the foreground, and across the way, the tourists exploring Delicate Arch and its’ environs.

The sun was going down and cast a soft purplish luminescense over the towers and formations caused by millenia of erosion in southeastern Utah, USA. Being that the area is often referred to as “red rock” country and I like the artistic effect created by Photoshop CS2’s posterization filter, I filtered this image to be more like an art piece than a photograph and gave it a reddish cast.

A well-known viewpoint stop on Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved road in North America, Lava Cliffs is a dramatic geological sight. I captured this off-center panoramic image en route to Trail Ridge Store (elevation 11,796 ft) in early September 2009.
