The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. However, when it is full, it is a beautiful shade of blue. A Conversation With the Clouds Captured at an elevation of 11,990 ft (3,655 m), standing atop Loveland Pass is like being able to touch heaven and the clouds. When I captured this, the slight hint of the scent of snow was in the air, and conditions up here can change literally by the second. It is right along the Continental Divide, and the views from up here are simply paradise! Background Information: / Peyto Lake is a glacier-fed lake located in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. The lake itself is easily accessed from the Icefields Parkway. It was named for Ebenezer William Peyto, an early trail guide and trapper in the Banff area. The lake is formed in a valley of the Waputik Range, between Caldron Peak, Peyto Peak and Mount Jimmy Simpson, at an elevation of 1,860 m (6,100 ft). During the summer, significant amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake, and these suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise color. Because of its bright color, photos of the lake often appear in illustrated books, and area around the lake is a popular sightseeing spot for tourists in the park. The lake is best seen from Bow Summit, the highest point on the Icefield Parkway. The lake is fed by the Peyto Creek, which drains water from the Caldron Lake and Peyto Glacier (part of the Wapta Icefield), and flows into the Mistaya River. Emerald Lake is a lake in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada. The lake is enclosed by mountains of the President Range, as well as Mount Burgess and Wapta Mountain. There is a 5.1 km trail circuiting the lake. Emerald Lake was discovered in 1882 by Tom Wilson. The Emerald Lake Lodge sits at the edge of the lake.

A New Years Sunrise While not a sunrise in the traditional sense of the word, but it sure seemed to be with the sun hiding behind the clouds, back lighting and glowing everything around me in a colorful haze in Moraine Park inside Rocky Mountain National Park. It was nothing but stunning! Quite the way to start and kick off the New Years I think! Processed in Photomatix HDR with 3 RAW files, then output through PSP 10, , shot on my 5D and Minolta 18-200 DT using a Singh-Ray CPL, and then hiding behind the car to shield myself from 80 MPH wind gusts lol The crazy thing is, the haze in the background, is actually from the snow that was falling and whipping around. ARCHITECTURE IS WHERE YOU FIND IT / Architecture is to do with the designing of buildings and structures, but in its broader meaning it also includes the design of our complete built environment. It can be found in outback areas, on mountain peaks, almost anywhere on the land, even on the sea in the form of oil rigs and it surrounds us in our places of abode. We tend to take it for granted and complain when its appeareance doesn’t suit our taste. Architecture provides us with shelter, places to work, gives us points of reference in our urban wilderness, but most important of all, it provides a fundamental basis for the way we live. Architecture is ephemeral, can be a thing of great beauty, and its elements can be pillaged and used as building blocks by successive generations. Past civilizations are often known through their achievements in architecture and certain works have become cultural, political and artistic icons. Presumably a family once lived in this little house at Fernie, British Columbia. It now stands derelict and isolated, yet it seems to exist as a monument to the toil of hard working rural people anywhere. The image was captured during summer 2008 towards the end of a photographic journey through the Canadian Rockies. Thanks for taking the time to view my photos and feel free to comment. Well this shot did really well over on deviantART so I thought that I would also share with you all here too. (I honestly wasn’t expecting the 1600 odd favorites it received over there, took me by surprise!) Storm clouds fight with the evening sunset over the Colorado Rockies & Longs Peak. Every now and then I like to get a little artistic with my HDR’s and this is one of those, there is no right, no wrongs when it comes to photography and artistic interpretation, and i realize that not everyone likes that, nor this style, that is fine, I respect that, but I also ask the same of you to respect my creativeness, too! Surely one of the most treasured spots to sit and watch as a new day breaks. Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada / July, 2009 Lake Louise, set in the Banff National Park in Canada is perhaps known as the Diamond of the Rockies for no other reason than its sheer beauty alone. Having arrived in Canada on the previous afternoon after a long trans-Atlantic flight, the idea to beat the effects of jet lag were adopted with a 3am alarm call and the chance to shoot Lake Louise in all its splendour at dawn. Following a 45 mins drive from Banff accompanied along the way with storms over the mountains lighting the otherwise black night sky, we arrived at Lake Louise in good time for sunrise. Some may know the lake as a bustling tourist spot with coaches coming and going throughout the day. Dropping off their cargo at the water’s edge to take in the majesty of Louise before whisking them off to a further destination all to the sound of clicking shutters and the gentle whir of digital handy-cams. For Claire and I the experience was to sit alone in silence; the only guests at Natures matinee performance… The dedication to early starts could not be better rewarded.
