This is two of the three auto exposure bracketted shots merged in photomatix. The boat moved too much in the longer exposure for that one to be useable. The Rous River is a tributary of the Tweed, and is basically surrounded by cane farms and mountains. We’re in the middle of one of the largest calderas in the world, I believe….a monster volcano from even before I was born! Canon 5D, 16-35mm at 16mm, f/10, 1/60”, ISO 50, tripod on a moving boat…

It may be a ‘new’ version of an old shot …but is it improved…? hmm….thats the question…. (CLICK ‘next’ to compare….) The original untouched dawn mist was my 2nd ever post to rb with taken with my brand-new pocket fuji finepix A500… and it’s been the most popular shot in my gallery by far. It’s just reached the unbelievable figure of 100 faves – how awesome and mindboggling is that!! So this plus a new challenge gave me the idea of tweaking it slightly to see if it could be improved on . I fiddled with the jpg as camera raw in PS Els 6… / Comments, comparisons and suggestions most welcome as I’d love to know what you think….. / / Original pencil drawing on Aquarelle Arches paper 56×76cm / Drawing 15 hours/painting 12 hours = 27 hours total A digitally painted hand drawn artwork… the inspiration for this is “Meeting Places”... As a child one of the most frequent things we did together as a family was to attend church on Sundays, I went to a Catholic School and the church I remember best was St Agnes’ at Port Macquarie… the nuns would come over for morning tea sometimes, and the priests would come for dinner occasionally…they were the days of fun parish picnics and life that wasn’t so hurried..when we took time to socialise, meeting and enjoying one another’s company. Mum was/is a great cook and host…and although this picture isn’t authentic as a portrait of her and myself…it’s representative. It’s also representative of new life and hope for the future, as the mother figure is with child….. and the child herself nurtures the wildlife…perhaps she is taking them to church for a blessing… perhaps the joey has lost his mother and needs nursing til he can fend for himself. The kookaburra is all seeing and all knowing….. the wise overseer of the bush… in this case, he stands in as the owl figure.
