  • Every international city needs a global icon, this is Sydney’s.

  • Anyone who has walked around Circular Quay will have seen this historic old pub near the ferry buildings. The solid structure has been a part of Sydney for many years. Artist Al Benge has the following to say about his original depiction of this inner city landmark. / “I used a free flowing splatter technique to try and convey the busy atmosphere of this part of Sydney. Old historic buildings are always worth recording, and it was a pleasure to portray the well-established lines of the pub with a casual, almost semi-abstract technique.”

  • HDRI Sydney early morning.

  • The reason why I like this shot is because it’s a photo of a Sydney icon that many people have, but a view of which that hasn’t really been captured. I also like it because I really approached the taking of this shot correctly. From knowing the right lane to be in, to having all the settings in the camera properly preset, to having the right camera and lens ready. And then I got lucky – the cloud cover was just right to avoid blow-outs and just for ONCE there was enough of a break in traffic that cars didn’t get in the way. I know it’s not quite perfect but it’s pretty much exactly what I set out to photograph. this photo won first place in a Pentaxforums.com members competition on the theme Symmetry in February 2008. Woohoo!!

  • Intended as a companion shot to the “Sydney Harbour Bridge (Int)” shot, I really wanted a second photo of the Sydney Harbour Bridge that wasn’t a standard-style one. The Harbour Bridge Pylons are the focus here, and the thing about them is that they’re actually purely decorative – they serve no engineering or structural purpose at all. (or so the tourist literature tells me!)

  • Although they (the City of Sydney) do a great job every year, I think putting a large beating heart on the bridge was one of their best ideas to date. That, and ‘Eternity’. I also like how, if you look along the left of the top of the arch, you can just see the tiny little bridgeclimbers going about their touristy business. Expensive (and you can’t take a camera), but a pretty cool thing to do.

  • I’m not sure about this one so I’d like your feedback, please. / / These steps are located in Darling Harbour, Sydney. They are one of the many water features in the area. / / It was really hard to get a good shot of them…this was the best one that I could come up with. It was a really bright and hot day so I used a polarising filter, an ND4 filter and an ND8 filter to try and get a longer exposure. / / Camera: FujiFilm FinePix S7000 / ISO200 / f/8 / 1/5 sec exposure / On my hands and knees getting strange looks from lots of tourists who were just prepared to stand over them and snap away..lol / / / /

  • This image was originally an acrylic-on-canvas painting I made for my sister who now lives in Australia. It includes a bottle of a famous Irish porter in the foreground so my sister won’t forget where she floated in from. / This is a digital conversion I made from the original acrylic-on-canvas painting. I was not able to aquire a quality photo image when I painted it. While identical to the original painting, this image has a cleaner and sharper look when viewed close up. This allows better and larger prints to be produced by Redbubble. / The original painting can be viewed at my website / and it’s also featured below in the video here. And here’s a photo of the original acrylic-on-canvas painting displayed in the home of it’s owner This painting is also available from here where you can zoom in on it for a closer look. Please remember that this is a digital conversion of an original acrylic painting. Judge for yourself, but in my opinion the digital image is a lot cleaner and subtle to the eye.

  • The Sydney Opera House is located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was conceived and largely built by Danish architect Jørn Utzon,( recently just died with out seeing his masterpiece) in 2003 received the Pritzker Prize, architecture’s highest honour.[1] The citation stated “ There is no doubt that the Sydney Opera House is his masterpiece. • Our photography class went on a field trip to Sydney Harbour last week. We arrived at 9pm and left at 1 am, but what a lot of fun we had. Our wonderful teachers went with us and explained about lighting, white balance and night photography. This is my first night lights shot. For an amateur I was fairly happy with the results. What do you think? Taken with my Canon 40 DSLR on a tripod. white balance- auto, shutter speed- 2/5 sec, iso- 200, Fstop-7.1 / I have done some post editing in photoshop but not too much, Lunar park is a favourite of mine as I used to go there back in my younger days. Thanks for visiting

  • I love the Sydney Opera House and have photographed it many times, along with a gazillion others, including many who upload to RB. Im always looking for an angle that is different yet still preserves the essential architecture of this iconic building. Best viewed in the larger format. Handheld, Nikon D90 112.0m f/8 1/1000s ISO800

  • Canon EOS 400D / best viewed using the VIEW LARGER function /

  • One evening few years ago I was walking at the Kings Cross suburb of Sydney. It was already dark, but a high-rise building above me did not have a single light in any of its 350 rooms. It was a somewhat scary to stand by this huge abandoned giant in a centre of the city. The sign on the top read “Millennium Hotel”. My mind started to picture apocalyptic stories about what might have happened to it in few years past the new millennium. I didn’t know that time that it was closed for the complete renovation. And here we go, $98m and few years later building is transformed into modern 37-storey Zenith Apartments tower. What a stunning view over the city it must be from its roof top. P.S. The Coca Cola Billboard is a character itself being the heritage-listed and largest billboard in the Southern Hemisphere. This is a vertical panorama or a vertorama as it is called sometimes. I took 2 sets of 3 AEB shots from a tripod (one centering on the Coke sign and another one for the top of the building). Those were later combined into a single HDR (4129×4720) and then tonemapped. Location: Darlinghurst Road, Potts Point, New South Wales, Australia > featured in HDR Photography (13-Sep-09) From my photoblog at http://www.bouncedphoton.com This print is available with 0% markup.
