Loch of the Lowes lies in the beautiful scottish borders between Moffat and Selkirk. It flows into nearby St Mary’s loch (with its thriving sailing club) past old Tibbieshiels inn, hostelry and overnight stop for walkers on the southern upland way crossing Scotland. Overlooking the north end of the loch is a monument to James Hogg – the Scottish Poet known as the Ettrick Shepherd, friend and contemporary of Sir Walter Scott. Taken 4/3/08 (untouched) with a pocket fuji finepix A500 (There is a 2nd loch of the lowes further north in Perthshire, complete with osprey viewing centre – but you can see the wonderful fish eagle hunting here too if you are lucky!) One of my favourite places that I discovered that day on a trip down to the Bavarian Alps. The weather and light were just light and I had to try for a few shots. They turned out darker than I’d planned so there is a wee bit of post-pro here but the scene is how I remember it. Got stuck in the snow and had trouble getting the car back on the road afterwards, but it was worth it. I am drawn back to this location whatever time of year, but this scene is special. Nikon D1X. Sigma 18-200mm. / Location: Near Leibersberg overlooking Lake Rieg, Upper Bavaria, Germany.
