Tradtional owner Lindsay Bookie and his family have allowed access to the wilderness Hay River over the last 2 year. He welcomes travellers to his camp at the far north edge of the Simpson Desert.(it’s about a half day drive from Jervios station coming from the top end off the Plenty Highway. / Along with bush tucker tours and talking around the camp fire he is a great host. / In this image Batton Hill and the spectacular white ghost gums of this area catch the last ray’s of red desert sunset. / Taken on Fuji S2 Pro

Bryce Canyon – USA tour 2008 – Trees barely hold on against the elements / please view large / Rich colors can be seen among the varied hoodoos, walls, and fins, the textures and formations were incredible. / I enjoyed the most amazing hike down to the bottom and the met the cutest Americans…...a bunch of overly friendly squirrels who had a habit of climbing up legs !!! Am not a tree nor do I have nuts :)) Yes, I had to capture them,,,, / Bryce Canyon is not a “real” canyon. It is not carved by flowing water. Water is the active ingredient here, but in the form of “frost-wedging” and chemical weathering. For 200 days a year the temperature goes above and below freezing every day. During the day, melt water seeps into fractures only to freeze at night, expanding by 9%. Now as ice, it exerts a tremendous force (2,000-20,000 pounds per squarte inch). Over time this “frost-wedging” shatters and pries rock apart. Upper Antelope Canyon – USA 2008 The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tse’ bighanilini, which means “the place where water runs through rocks.” Upper Antelope is at about 4,000 feet in elevation and the canyon walls rise 120 feet above the stream bed. Though dry most of the year, Antelope Canyon runs, and sometimes floods, with water after rains. It is the water, slowly wearing away the sandstone grain by grain, that has formed the beautiful and graceful curves in the rock. On our way to the Blue Mts (west of Sydney NSW) over Christmas, we stayed in a Muswellbrook caravan park with horses up the back. Couldn’t resist getting out and about with camera in hand. I used the Smudge tool on the background a bit plus a soft diffuse glow. As you can see, he was in a paddock with junk lying everywhere – tin, tyres, bricks, pipes. Hence the background smudge here and there.

I stood in the snow behind the tripod, so quietly that one bird landed on my lens! What joy. I couldn’t actually say we bonded, but I was thrilled. I’ve had birds land on my hat, but never one that I could see so closely. Featured in Alaska ~ Beyond Your Dreams – Thank you! Shot in RAW. Slight curves adjustment, at the suggestion of Eivor. The snowfall made it necessary to bump up the ISO to 320. I tried ISO 640 at one point, but those looked a tad grainy. This is a male Common Redpoll in today’s snowfall. Note snowflake on his back. Our area has so far eluded Mt. Redoubt’s harsh volcanic particles, although Alaska Airlines and FedEx had to suspend all flights in and out yesterday. With the global economy caught in the gravity of the financial crisis, it’s sad that programs like the Constellation Project will have a long wait before anything truly gets off the ground. / / NASA’s Constellation Project is set up to finish the International Space Station, retire the Shuttle Fleet and build a whole new fleet of space vehicles which will take us back to the Moon, then Mars and then the places beyond. / / But with Congressional limitations and funding cutbacks due to the financial crisis, as well as being stuck with a complicated and restrictive “go as you pay” finance structure it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any groundbreaking manned space flights in the naughties. / / This image represents a fleeting memory of a childhood dream to see man explore our planets and then the stars beyond and it’s one of the few things as a child I looked up to America for. / / The universe is a big place and we’re yet to make it out of our solar system but without programs like the Constellation Project, man may never ever get to make another giant leap. / / DETAIL / / / /
