Shot near the construction of the new Pier, North Bay at Kaikoura on New Zealand’s South Island. Very harsh light to deal with, thats why I like the clouds, you get lots more colour, drama and light balance. Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm lens, with Cokin ND4 grad filter.

suddenly you thought of dreams from a misplaced day / the open hearted anguish that trickled out the dawn / could you believe in nothing and still call in something / the sun will finally rise when you’ve wished it never would what are you to see so back from tomorrow you see inside of me / did the morning come to greet you / was it suffering like a lonely sea / and your lonely stare……looks different today.. you opened up a suitcase and said fuck the other days / the point of execution was the sign you needed now / a locked door on the front but there’s a path round the back / and hurting seems beneath you so stay up in the dark what are you to need so back from tomorrow you see inside of me / did the morning come to greet you / was it suffering like a lonely sea / and your lonely stare……looks different today.. there’s nothing you can’t understand / you need it now somehow so back from tomorrow you see inside of me / did the morning come to greet you / was it suffering like a lonely sea / and your lonely stare……looks different today.. -me

Walking quietly, he crept along the hidden harbor lights and blew them out. One by one. He slid between wood and water and felt for dry land. His fingers slipped through sand that trickled across his chest, down his pant legs and onto the boardwalk. He looked up and saw, through beams of fog, through wedges of flashing light, through fluttering wings of either angels or doves or pigeons, saw through countless pillows of resentment that had curdled into anger, saw through pangs of love lost and love found and love forgotten and love unappreciated and love lust love lust love lust, saw through the eyelids of the being he was born as that he had not remembered until this second, and saw saw saw the boat come in. It was a sad little ship. Yet it was just right for him. Perfect. And he was glad he had waited. Now he could sail. “Boat Has Landed” is acrylic and gesso on heavy paper 15”x20”

The Challenge…to see how many paintings I could create out of almost nothing while my studio is being renovated…this is matboard…I did say almost…it took black fountain pen ink, a kitchen knife and tea towel to create this scene...
