An inland water way with a difference. / This is the smooth rich red sands of the Hay River located in the wilderness area of the North Simpson Desert. / Seasonal rains create flash floods, brining life to the desert… a ribbon of life that runs from NT near Jervios through the heart of the Simpson, on toward Poepell corner near the QAA line which is normal desert crossing to Birdsville / A very rare scene experience only by a few travellers. / Taken on Fuji S2 Pro

Tradtional owner Lindsay Bookie and his family have allowed access to the wilderness Hay River over the last 2 year. He welcomes travellers to his camp at the far north edge of the Simpson Desert.(it’s about a half day drive from Jervios station coming from the top end off the Plenty Highway. / Along with bush tucker tours and talking around the camp fire he is a great host. / In this image Batton Hill and the spectacular white ghost gums of this area catch the last ray’s of red desert sunset. / Taken on Fuji S2 Pro

This is the smooth rich red sands of the Hay River located in the wilderness area of the North Simpson Desert. / Seasonal rains create flash floods, brining life to the desert… a ribbon of life that runs from NT near Jervios through the heart of the Simpson, on toward Poepell corner near the QAA line and French Line..These tracks at the south end of the desert are the normal desert crossing routes, taking people from Alice Springs to Birdsville. / They were originally established by likes of Fench Petrolem in the search for oil. A very rare scene experience only by a few travellers, and I would beleive not previously photographed this deep into the desert.

“Rosh haNikra is a cliff at the sea, right at the northern border of Israel towards Lebanon. The name means “head of the cave”, and tells us why this place is listed on showcaves.com: there are numerous impressive sea caves at the foot of the cliff, which may be reached by cable car. The longest cave is 200m long. The cliff consits of white chalk, and looks similar to the cliffs of Dover. The caves were formed by the work of the sea water, following fracture zones in the rock which are weaker than undisturbed rocks. The cliffs were always a problem for travel and trade. The mountains ridge orms a natural border, and so very early a tunnel was hewn into the soft chalk. Alexander of Macedonea (Alexander the Great) is credited for having hewed the first tunnel in 323 BC to create a passageway for his army after besieging Tyre. Later this road was used by the armies of the Seleucids and the Ptolemies. In 1099 AD it was used by the Crusaders. In World War I the British Army built the first road, which as accessible to motor vehicles. The latest and most impressive traffic route through the cliff was the Haifa-Beirut-Tripoli railway, which was built by the British during World War II. There were three tunnels, one on each side of the border and one crossing the border. The tunnel on the Israelian side may be visited. The railroad tracks are removed, but there is a sort of “tourist railroad”. The caves are numerous interconnected branches totaling 200m. Formed by the work of the sea they are located around sea level at the foot of the cliff, and the only way to enter their natural entrance is with diving gear and rather dangerous. The Moose (Alces alces) is the world’s largest member of the deer family. The Alaska race (Alces alces gigas) is the largest of all the moose. Always remember, never come between a cow and her calf. Her twin calves were browsing with her, the female calf is just out of the frame nearby. See more of this beautiful animal in my collection: / Moose Dream Shadows It is amazing how graceful and quiet they are. / The Alaska race (Alces alces gigas) is the largest of all the moose, occurring in suitable habitat from the Stikine River in the Panhandle to the Colville River on the Arctic Slope. Most abundant in recently burned areas containing willow, fireweed and birch shrubs, on timberline plateaus, and along the major rivers of Southcentral and Interior Alaska. Their colour ranges from golden brown to almost black, depending upon the season and the age of the animal. Newborn calves weigh 28 to 35 lbs and within five months grow to over 300 lbs. Males in prime condition weigh from 1,200 to 1,600 lbs or more. Cows weigh 800 to 1,300 lbs or more. Only the bulls have antlers. Calves are born any time from mid- May to early June. Gestation is about 230 days. Cows give birth to twins 15 to 75 percent of the time, and triplets may occur. In winter, Moose consume large quantities of willow, birch, and aspen twigs. Deep crusted snow can lead to malnutrition and death of hundreds of Moose and decrease survival of the calves. Information source: Wikipedia
