  • Snapped candidly whilst descending the stairs from the second floor of Double Happiness (new gold mountain)

  • Taken in a bar in Auckland which was filled with hundreds of different lampshades.

  • THE SUBJECT: / Here we have a nice set of Actinotus helianthus (Flannel Flower) basking in the mid-afternoon sun on a warm Spring day. THE LOCATION: / The shot was made whilst on a wildflower hunt with a couple of Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club friends along the Flower Bowl Walk in the Kattang Nature Reserve at Dunbogan, south of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. THE MAKING OF ‘Flannel Flower Lampshades’: / The photograph has been purposely under exposed by taking the metering directly from the brightest flower to show the full affect of the sunlight on the petals of the open flowers, making them look like lamps with inverted lampshades. / What I really like about the final result is the wonderful natural composition of the flower head, the clarity of detail and of course that glorious light. / Fuji S9600: RAW, Manual settings of f/3.7 @ 1/400sec, Auto focus, ISO80, Hand held. / S7RAW & Photoshop CS. Visit my Aussie Wildflower collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more native gems. Enjoy! UPDATE: 06-04-09 / These fabulous Flannels have been awarded the POTD in the Shutterbugs Theme Section. UPDATE: 12-4-09 / Someone with impeccable tase, a love of light and beautiful Aussie wildflowers has bought a Medium Laminated Print of these fabulous Flannels. • Finally, the last in the series of lampshade relections – a pic that at least resembles the subject at hand…the curvy lampshade!

  • Shot of some lead/glass lamps taken at dusk at the local shopping mall. I was attracted to the wonderful array of colour and light against the deepening dusk… Regards, Mike

  • Taken with my Canon A75 in macro mode. The feather is taped to a lampshade. I was experimenting with the light from behind. In this case, I have exposed some of the lampshade in the shot. It is a shade made out of recycled paper and this shot shows the specs and texture from the recycling process.I think it adds an interesting background.

  • Enlarged design.

  • Peruvian dancers in the village of Chivay in the Colca Canyon, Peru. Those are guys wearing the hats which resembles a lampshade! Very strange! The girl is wearing a style of hat unique to the Colca Valley. Far more flattering! ;o)

  • I saw this amazing lampshade in a friend’s home in India three years ago – and I was mesmerised by the intricate design, all the way from the top section down to the bulbous lower area. I don’t think I’ve ever seen as many miniature geometrical shapes and colours illuminated in such a small area before. There are circles, triangles, inverted triangles and squares interspersed all the way through the rich design. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. • Okay, you can breathe easy again, because it’s not a UFO and I haven’t been kidnapped by aliens! It’s just an exquisite Indian-made lamp, from New Delhi. The thing that really caught my eye here was the rich burgundy fabric of the lampshade, which is made from raw silk. This, I was told, is famous for the seemingly rough, gnarly texture showing up as diagonal lines across the material. For this shot, I chose to focus on the weave of the fabric and the slim metal struts. I opted for depth of field to emphasise the glow of the lamp’s interior, as well as the two triangular segments of light reflected on the wall in the bottom left corner and top right corner. The geometrical aspect of this shot suggested itself. By tilting my camera to the left, I was able to produce an image that included two concentric circles, straight lines, two triangles as well as the tops of hexagons. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my work in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 1/45 sec, ISO 800, focal length 125mm. Featured in AUTHENTIC INDIA, August 2009. • Something I did in Photoshop. Its made in 69 layers. I did it with the pen tool from the beginning. The original was 7100×7100 but that file was to big here so I took it down to 5000×5000. / It looks like a plafond, lampshade in the ceiling. / Hope you like it.
