cute baby sheep
A rural Autumn farm composition with nice colored leaves, a fence and sheep. This shot was taken in October of 2005 at the historic Longstreet Farm located in Holmdel, NJ.
I was on my way to Abbeycymhir in Mid Wales ready for a 6 mile hike, when I noticed this old farmhouse up for sale … I just had to stop and explore …. it was empty and slightly derelict but so full of potential ….... / There are 5 images here, all melted together in Photoshop …....
Two lambs seem to be having a conversation in the spring sunshine. Dorset, England.

A lamb sheltering from the cold wind, taken in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. This image featured in the group Animal Kingdom in August 2009. Many thanks! And this image won A Day in the Country Challenge in September 2009. Many thanks to those who voted!
A compilation of 7 images, mainly from the stunning area around Beddgelert in the Snowdonia National park, Wales, UK. / I thought that I’d try and tug at a few emotions with this one …..... when out walking you always hear the lambs calling thier mums when they manage to wander off and get seperated …..... Software ~ Adobe Photoshop CS3 Tutorial for the DigitalArt Compilations group I opened the seven images that I intended using. / I chose my background image. / Using the lasso tool, I selected an area off another image and then dragged it onto the background layer using the move tool. / Once it was in position I then added a layer mask to it, after selecting a soft brush and picking black I brushed out any unwanted areas of the dragged image. / I repeated the process with the remaining images. / Everytime you drag an image on, photoshop creates a new layer and to ensure each image tied in, I adjusted the levels for every one. / Once I had all of the components in place, I merged all visible layers. / I then duplicated the layer. / Now it was time for the dodging, burning, curves, unsharp mask and render filter. / Finally merge visible layers and save . / Copyright 2008 Richie Dean VISIT MY WEBSITE .

Winter Farm. Wimpole – Jan 2009 /
Mother keeps her little ones close and watches over them as we pass by on our walk in late Spring last year. It is good to know that Nature is rousing herself once more from her Wintery slumbers and the delights of Spring will soon be back with us again.

2008, Oil on Canvas, 40” x 30” The world has grown smaller – at least it seems that way. People of all nations and colors can be found in almost any country, but they do not always live peacefully side by side. If humans were to take some clues from the fluffy folk, they would realize that only by being united are there enough colors to make a painting come alive. And only united will the painting session go by without the fur flying. Nobody is happier about it than the sheep. Perhaps this is one of my more significant paintings of this year – most certainly it’s my favorite so far.
2008, Oil on Canvas, 18” x 18” If only we had a bit of the gumption of the sheep, then we, too, might be able to discover worlds of castles, glittering gold in the sand and buried treasures. Seems like we’ve been told a few too many times that wool and water don’t mix, so we never look into the fishbowl anymore. But we might be surprised at what we find / there – it just might be the perfect fish for us. If nothing else, it will sound really cool when we hear ourselves talk with water in our ears.
2008, Acrylic on Canvas, 48” x 24” My daughter has a way of always disappearing from the face of the Earth when there is work to be done, usually with some lame excuse of “I couldn’t hear you,” or “I was trying to think of why worms don’t have legs,” or some such profound statement. It does enable her to avoid much in the way of cleaning up her room or setting the table. To see it in perspective, her skill in marketing her opinion has become quite good. This little sheep seems to be escaping the tediousness of chewing cud in the meadow. Never underestimate the lengths lazy things will go to get away from going to great lengths with things they don’t want to do.
2008, Acrylic on Canvas, 24” x 18” Leonardo DaVinci must have been quite the character to have at a dinner party. I’m sure his conversations sparked some rather awkward moments as well, simply because his way of thinking was different than that of the general population. Hmmm… maybe a case of Aspergers Syndrome? Some would probably call him “weird”; others “genius”. Either way, he was one of the most influential people in history. And his most famous work, The Vitruvian Man, is in essence a measuring tool for the human form. Applied to sheep, it sets a standard of proportions and silliness, which is why Baaa Vinci is the painting which begins by Sheep Incognito book. I used earthy, old-world colors to give it the aged feel of antique paper. My favorite part is the the paunchy belly of this guy – quite contrary to the old fashioned, six-pack that DaVinci’s guy had. Meet the new beauty standard. I’ve been asked what the writing at the top of the painting means. Well, in true sheep manner they’ve followed the master and wrote Baaah, baaah, baaah maaah, maaah baaahbabamah, baaamaaah, in mirrored writing there…. It must be something about the hidden agenda of Sheep Incognito.
2007, Oil on Canvas, 9” x 12” Anyone in a long-distance relationship can relate to this painting. Lucky are the ones who have only a fence between them – more often it’s worlds instead.
This is an image I was lucky to capture of this beautiful lamb (my neighbor’s) .....she is so different than all the rest…I love her face and the expression she shows…..always makes me smile! / Captured on 10/26/09 in Anderson, California. / / As with all of my work, this image is copyright protected and registered – Please respect copyrights
