My life changed when I met him. I did not expect to even get close, but when my friend, Pema called to me one day,”’Linaji, Linaji, you must come with me!” I tuned to her from my dishes I was washing and said as usual, “Oh Pema, what now”? She was always grabbing my arm to show me something, a bug or a snake or some kind of amazing event that for me seemed rather on the mundane. I was in a dream state dish mode and wanted to get my job done. “Linaji, His Holiness is coming to give private audience to all the new monks, nuns and many new Tibetans coming over the mountain, you must be coming with me, you must”! / How could I say no? So I grabbed my skirt and threw on a top and we ran and ran and ran, I wanted this meeting. I had lived in Dharmsala already one time before this visit and I was wishing one day to meet him. Pema is a Nun and she is a beauty. She was beholden to me as one day the owner of our lodgings came to her door drunk and tried to push his way in. When she told me this, I hate to say it but I went rather Maa Kaali on him. Which means crazy. And I insisted she not pay rent for one month. He was smaller than me and when I am angry, I do believe I am possessed by a spirit like Maa Kaali. / We arrived and we were told that anything we wanted blessed by His Holiness we would put on the table. I did not do this. I wanted the Dali Lama to touch my malas, I had two, one was for my brother. / As it turned out, I was in the middle of the line after he talked for a while to all the monks and nuns and travelers from Tibet. When it was my turn to shake his hand, I tenderly reached for his with Mala’s in ready, and put his hand to my forehead. I looked into his eyes and saw a light so free and kind that I felt indeed blessed by the sun. One is not suppose to look into his eyes but I could not help myself. His kindness and his warmth took me. I knew he forgave me instantly if I had done anything to offend him or the ways of propriety. / He is all that is said of him. I have never seen eyes that shone like the essence of a smile. I gave my brother this gift of these beads. Lord Ganesh has them on my desk and sometimes I use them to meditate and chant. I am trying to write more every day, so I thought you all would enjoy this most auspicious time in my life.

His Eminence Garchen Triptrul Rinpoche is a Drikung Kagyu lama who was known in the thirteenth century as the Siddha Gar Chodingpa, a heart disciple of Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon, founder of the Drikung Kagyu lineage. In ancient India, he had incarnated as Mahasiddha Aryadeva, the lotus-born disciple of the great Nagarjuna. In the seventh century, he was known as Lonpo Gar, the minister of the Tibetan Dharma King Songtsen Gampo. His present emanation appeared in 1936 in eastern Tibet and was recognized and enthroned by the former Drigung Kyabgon Zhiwe Lodro. At the age of seven Rinpoche was brought to Lho Miyal Monastery. There, in a room full of status, he was asked to identify his lama. Pointing to a statue of Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon, he said, “He is my lama.” Thus, he was recognized as the true holder of the Garchen throne. From the age of eleven, Garchen Rinpoche lived at and administered this monastery. Studying and practicing under the direction of the Siddha Chime Dorje, he received vast and profound instructions on the preliminary practices (ngondro), the fivehold practice of mahamudra and the six yogas of Naropa. Then, at the age of twenty-two, after completing a two and a half year retreat, he was imprisoned for twenty years during the political turmoil of China’s Cultural Revolution. While in the labor camp, Rinpoche received all Dzogchen teachings and meditation instruction from his root lama, the Nyingma Khenpo Munsel, Enduring hardship and practicing secretly, Garchen Rinpoche realized the lama’s inconceivable wisdom mind. His accomplishment was greatly impressed by his teacher and praised by this teacher that there is no doubt that Rinpoche is the actual emanation of a great Bodhisattva. Since his release from prison in 1979, Garchen Rinpoche has made great effort to rebuild the Drikung Kagyu monasteries of eastern Tibet and to reestablish the precious Dharma teachings there. He is presently involved in the establishment of a monastic college at Gar Monastery and two boarding schools for the children of nomadic families. He is also engaged in a variety of projects to restore Gar Monastery to its former glory. In the United States, Rinpoche has recently established Ari Gar Zangchup Choling and Drikung Mahayana Centers for the teaching and practice of the buddhadharma. His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche, “a great Drikung Kagyu yogi of the present time” praised by His Holiness Chetsang Rinpoche and is respected by many Tibetan lamas as a pure and realized master. An accomplished practitioner of Mahamudra and Dzogchen. Rinpoche’s radiant presence inspires and delights students as the loving mother gathers her children close with sheltering, loving, encouraging, admonishing, laughing, inviting, prodding, teaching, reminding, singing… Always Rinpoche seemed to teach that specific meaning for which one’s own heart yearned. And always his teachings and his example were both brilliantly inspiring and deeply satisfying – showing us the ideal, giving us skillful means by which to realize it. Through teachings on Nature of Mind and Mahamudra, the Vajra Songs of Milarepa, limitless aspiration prayers offered for all beings, Tummo and Guru Yoga practices, the Refuge and Bodhisattva lay ordinations, and teachings on Bodhisattva activity through cultivating the Four Immeasurables and the Thirty-Seven Bodhisattva Practices, Rinpoche poured out the lineage nectar: devotion, compassion, Muhamudra. It is a very rare opportunity in samsaric lives to meet a genuine Bodhisattva/Buddha. To be able to serve an authentic teacher who can guide us on the unmistaken Dharma Path, it is not only due to the cause and condition from our past accumulated merits, the future is also depend on the cause and condition of what we do in this life. We should all preserve this precious human life and such rare opportunity to keep to our hearts of dharma practices and develop the faith toward the authentic dharma teachers.

Peace Flags provide you with a special way to express some of the most important issues of the heart. In words or pictures, one can convey positive wishes for one’s self, family, friends, community and the World. One may wish to convey something individually concerning health, success, prosperity or affirm a concept one would like to see manifested in the world like peace, cooperation, equality, understanding, compassion and love. Let your imagination connect to what matters most to you. / According to Ancient tradition, prayers printed on the flags are carried on the wind. The traditional flags are blue/ Sky, white/for Air or Clouds, red /for Fire, green/ Water and yellow/ Earth. Carried On The Wind Is Offered For World Peace Whether one believes in a religion or not, and whether one believes in rebirth or not, there isn’t anyone who doesn’t appreciate kindness and compassion…... / Quote from The Dalai Lama Painting using acrylics, inks and enamels – 102×42cm
543 views as of 10 November 2009. My first image to get 500+ views since I joined Red Bubble in May this year, this depiction of two hand-crafted Buddhist prayer wheels was shot inside a shop called Chamba Lama in the New Market, Calcutta, in mid-October, 2006. There was a nostalgic element here, because I went to school in the Himalayan town of Darjeeling, where it was commonplace to see wizened old Tibetan men and women with beautiful creased and lined faces, lips moving in reverence as their hands twirled their prayer wheels. The wheels are held in one hand and the tops rotate slowly and rhythmically as prayers are offered. On the metallic scroll closest to the camera, you can actually see the Sanskrit lettering that spells out the all-powerful incantation “Om”. This was one of a series of four shots taken in tricky lighting – but it has a slight edge over the other images, because of the depth of field and the presence of the second prayer wheel in the mid-frame area . I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 1/10 sec, ISO 800, focal length 78mm. Featured in METALLIC JUNKTION, May 2009. I captured this image of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in March of 2000 in MacLeod Ganj, Upper Dharamshala, India. FEATURED IN THE HUMAN CONDITION GROUP ON 17.9.09 / FEATURED IN THE UN!TY GROUP ON OCT. 22/09 / FEATURED IN THE MULTI-RACIAL BEAUTY GROUP ON OCT. 30/09 / PLACED IN THE TOP TEN IN THE ‘HERO OF THE DAY’ CHALLENGE IN THE SPEAKING PHOTOS GROUP / FEATURED IN THE BEAUTIFUL GROUP ON NOV. 10/09 March 10th, 2000 was the 41st anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day of 1959. / Please click here to read His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s statement on this important day. I was very fortunate to have stayed in MacLeod Ganj during this important occasion, as I was able to see His Holiness the Dalai Lama three times during my three week stay in that lovely town. / This image was captured on my first very fortunate chance to see His Holiness! I owe this tremendous gift to a Tibetan monk whom I had befriended in town, who had called my guesthouse early one morning to inform me that I would be able to see His Holiness give a speech of thanks toward the government of India and the people of India for greatly helping the people of Tibet since their exile. The visiting travelers and tourists of MacLeod Ganj were not made aware of this speech, and as such, I was one among only a few westerners in a relatively small crowd, sitting on the grass of His Holiness’ residence (where he offers monthly public audiences); there to witness what really felt like a real living angel!!!!! It was a surreal moment to see His Holiness walk past me… as you can tell from the angle of the capture, and as mentioned above, I was sitting on the grass.. which made for a lovely composition of this beautiful soul! / Although it has been nine years, I can still feel today what I felt then as I saw His Holiness. I believe His Love, Wisdom and Compassion permeates the hearts and minds of all people he encounters and all the places he visits. I feel so blessed to have been in his presence. On the second occasion, during the same day, in a different location I was able to witness His Holiness and some other key speakers deliver speeches addressing the 41st anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day to a large crowd of locals and visitors. The third occasion was truly extraordinary!!! This is actually what made me decide to travel to MacLeod Ganj… after learning from a fellow traveler in Thailand, that it is possible to receive a blessing and shake His Holiness’ hand, as he gives monthly public audiences, I immediately made plans to visit MacLeod Ganj!!! / I very gratefully received a blessed white scarf, and was able to shake His Holiness’ hand outside on a grassy area of His Holiness’ residence! This was an incredible experience for me which I will treasure eternally. —-—-—-—-——- My images do not belong to the public domain. All images are copyright © Tatum Wulff. All Rights Reserved.
