Charcoal, pastel and acrylic on paper. / I really did see this. Some years ago my ex and I and our blended teenage kids were camping somewhere vaguely near Margaret River in Western Australia. Things were not going well between us and it was painfully intense. In the middle of the night I had to go to the loo, (a dunny) which was a long walk through the dark bush; luckily the moon was out. On the way back to camp I saw this bright figure next to the path as if tangled in the bushes. Next day, we parted company, I went down to Dunsborough and while waiting for my son to go diving on the wreck there, I sat in a cafe and read a magazine. There was an article about an artist named Andy Lakey, who I’d never heard of. He’d had a near death experience and started painting angels. The way he depicted them looked very similar to what I’d seen. Whether a co incidence or something else it did give me some comfort. I since found a book of Andy Lakey’s art and it is something else.
