Taken at sunset at Laval-Ouest beach on 22/04/08(spring in Canada). Used my Canon A75. I am pleased with the color and calmness of the lake. The name came to me instantly. Although it cannot be seen by the viewer this area was flooded out and I had to take the shot from across the road as the water had spilled over. The defensive Tower house of Smailholm, just over the Scottish border, near Kelso. The tower was built in the mid 1400’s at a time when lawlessness and violent bands of reivers, ravaged the lands both sides of the English-Scottish border. And a solitary white swan, resides below the Tower Even today, the landscape is lonely, and you can easily imagine the starkness of those dark days. Dreary dull, grey, original digital photograph. / Lots of photoshop layers and borrowed sunset from my bonny Northumberland, Budle Bay photo. Inversion and refining with digital painting….. it would have been easier to conventionally paint this!!
The setting sun picked out the Autumn colours along the pathway through the trees leading to the edge of one of the beautiful lakes of Killarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland. / / The Lakes of Killarney have many legends and stories of magic and mystery attached to them. The Tuatha de Danaan or the Tribes of the Goddess Danu are thought to have been a sea-faring race called Pelasgians that lived near the Aegean Sea. The Danaans were a magical race, and possessed the knowledge of blacksmithing. They came to the British Isles after they were driven from their homes by invaders from the northeast and southeast. / According to the Book of Invasions, the Tuatha de Danaans were driven northward from Greece as a result of invasion from Syria, and eventually reached Ireland by way of Denmark, to which they gave their own name, Kingdom of the Danaans and North Britain. The date of their arrival in Britain is recorded as 1472 BC. According to Herodotus in History, the Syrian invasion of Greece may be the capture by Phoenicians of the Danaan shrine of the White Goddess Io at Argos, then the religious capitol of the Peloponnese. The Cretans colonized it in 1750 BC. Herodotus does not date the event except that it happened before the Argo expedition to Colchis, which the Greeks dated 1225 BC and before Europa went from Phoenicia to Crete, a tribal emigration, which probably took place some centuries earlier before the sack of Cnossos in 1400 BC. / According to legend, when the Danaans landed in Ireland, they arrived from the sky on a ship of dark clouds on the eve of Beltaine. The Tuatha de Danaans brought with them the stone of destiny called Lia Fail, which was placed on Tara and used to choose the rightful kings of Ireland. They also brought the spear of Lugh, which made whoever wielded it victorious in battle. The third gift they brought was The Sword of Nuada or the Sword of Light, which none could escape from. There was a fourth gift, the Cauldron of the Dagda, which would always be filled with food so that none would starve. / They had to fight the Firbolgs, which they defeated on the hill of Moytura, but the Danaan king, Nuada, lost his hand in this battle. Then, they had to fight the Formorians, a race of ugly giants. The Danaans won the fight with the help of their champion, Lugh, and the Formorians were sent to live under the sea. / 200 years after arrival of the Danaans in Ireland, people sailing from Thrace through the / Mediterranean and out into the Atlantic, landed in Wexford Bay where they came into conflict with the Danaans, but were persuaded to pass out into Northern Britain, then called Albany. They were known as Picts, or Painted Ones. / The Milesians arrived soon after. Instead of fighting the Milesians, the Danaans chose to retreat into the hills and mounds, living in raths that were invisible to humans. Because of this, they were referred to as “Aes Sidhe,” which means the people of the sidhe. The Danaans became the faery folk of Ireland, also called ‘the gentry,’ ‘the grey ones’ or ‘the others.’ They are not tiny faeries but are of normal height and shapeshifters. They are the spirits of the wood, river, and mounds. They are immortals and the only thing that can harm them is iron. The fact that only iron can harm theTuatha de Danaans my have a deeper meaning. It is possible that the Danaans were a Bronze Age race that was defeated by an Iron Age race, the Milesians. / http://www.kelleyheckart.com/Tuatha_de_Danaan.html

Saint Mary’s Lake is in Glacier National Park, Montana, USA. I believe I was rather lucky to get such a calm day as I witnessed here, since I was told that for quite some weeks they had been experiencing unusually bad weather for the time of year ! Glacier is an amazing place, with its primeval mountain shapes, and abundant wildlife, lakes and waterfalls, and many good trails. I was hearing the Elk bugling across the lake as I shot. I would recommend this magic place to anyone ! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, polarising filter, f22, 1/30 sec, iso 100, auto WB, Raw file, processed in Adobe CS3, selective levels/curves and selective colour adjustments. I sharpened with Intellisharpen 2. FEATURED IN / http://www.redbubble.com/groups/dslr-users-only-3-a-day / AND / http://www.redbubble.com/groups/streams-brooks-creeks SEE MORE OF MY “USA” SET HERE …
Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 1/25 second, ISO100, tweaked in Photoshop I went for a walk up Scaffel Pike (England’s highest mountain at 978 metres (3,209 ft)) yesterday with some friends, the weather was very kind to us, more of which later. This is a view of Wastwater which was voted Britain’s greatest view on a TV show a few years ago. Wastwater is 3 miles long, half a mile wide and 260 feet deep, and the deepest of all the lakes. Wastwater is surrounded by several huge mountains which includes Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Great Gable and Scafell Pike. Please view large

Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 1/15 second, ISO100, processed in Photoshop On Monday I went for a walk with the dynamic duo of Jason Connolly and Jamie Green near High Dam in the Lake District. The weather was overcast for the first hour but then we were greeted with wonderful autumnal sunshine. This is a view from Stott park overlooking the middle of Windermere. The title refers to Mr Cs annoyance that I got a shot of the bench in sunlight, when he arrived at this spot the sun would not come out….I did not hear the end of it for the rest of the walk…lol!! The iconic Liathach rises above Loch Clair, on a beautiful Winter’s day. / Not a perfect reflection, but still a wonderful scene. The dead tree has stood there for as long as I remember, in just the right place for a great composition. / Liathach is one of the Torridon Hills, in the North West of Scotland. Shot on my Canon EOS 40D, tripod, polariser, f19, 1/20sec, iso 100, auto wb, single RAW file pseudo HDR in Photomatix, tweaked in PS CS3, and a final layer of Orton, reducing the opacity, to make the colours ‘pop’.
