The Pukeko, or New Zealand Swamp Hen is a member of the rail family, and is similar to other species found all over the world. It is one of the few New Zealand native birds to have flourished since the arrival of man, and can be found in almost any grassland area, especially in swampy locations. Groups will often be seen foraging for food in road-side areas. I have come to the conclusion that Pukeko are suicidal. I so often see them on the side of the road, dithering, darting backwards and forwards, looking for an opportunity to cross, only to come back later to see them squashed on the road. They seem to have no road sense at all. /
This cute poor little Duckling had been rejected for what ever reason unknown by mummy Duck…........ This is a real shame such a sweet little guy too ! ..................... )-:

Two retrievers attentively watching two fishermen on Lake of the Woods, Ontario. The dogs, particularly the little one, want to go in and retrieve the lures. / The little brown one went along on one fishing trip. As soon as the lure hit the water, she dove out of the boat and started swimming toward the it. Fortunately we were able to pull her back into the boat before she connected with the lure. No more fishing trips for that one! /
We watched these elk cross the lake yesterday, swimming with grace through the cold autumn waters, then climbing out onto the land, shaking off and finding their way to the sun to dry…. Lake Estes, Estes Park, Colorado.
After playing in the water all day long and then drying off, Jazz (Boykin Spaniel) decided to sneak back down for a late day swim even though she knew she wasn’t supposed to.Not sure which she likes better-eating or swimming!!! /
Sometimes in life you don’t hold back, you just have to jump in feet first and see what happens. This is Sydney, a 10 yr. old Chesapeake Bay Retriever. She was enjoying some good ol’ fashion dock jumping in North Carolina.

We were driving through Atlanta, GA last year, and stumbled upon this lake and small jetty. It reminded me of the movie “On Golden Pond”, and could imagine the fun to be had when we were younger and a bit more adventurous.
