A collection of sunrises and sunsets on the South Australian coast and Lake Albert, Meningie. / / / /
Wrapping up 2009 with my first calendar for 2010!! These are the best of my work for this year!! I hope you enjoy!
Images from Lake Bonney, South Australia, Taken April 2008. Lake Bonney is a natural lake which is fed by the Murray River. Due to the current drought the lake has been cut off from the Murray and is in danger of drying out in a few years. This is not the first time this has happened. In 1915 the lake dried out so much the locals farmed cereal crops on the dry bed only to be washed out by the 1916 floods. The death of the large river redgums of Lake Bonney are not the result of the current drought but the building of a loch on the river which prevented the natural rise and fall of the lake waters. This had an adverse effect on the natural breeding grounds of native fish and waterfowl and caused the death of the gums. Lake Bonney is still home to a multitude of wildlife especially birds and it would be an ecological disaster to loose it. A more complete history can be found HERE / / / /
Some serene, beautiful scenery starring the Little Boat. ;-)
These images were taken at various world destinations. From the warm sunrise at Mooloolaba Beach, the cool fresh mornings and glorious sunsets in Canada, the blue ice of Lake Placid, the moving silhouettes of Gettysburg, the sunshine and rain of London to the freezer that is Lapland, Finland! I had great fun taking these photo’s and hope you enjoy them too. Have a great year!!
Sun and Water
A series of lake scenes by Mark Snelson
I’ve edited the calendar to include better shots than those which were there before. I wanted to keep it to daybreak and sundown, hence the title “Beginnings and Ends”. And yes, there was some other beginnings and endings for which this is an anaolgy :)

This little “lake” is about 10km out of Mullewa on the Tenindewa Road. / There are aways ducks and ‘stilts’, but occassionally some black swans call in for a visit. I used to drive past here every day, when I used to drive one of the local school buses.
Mt. Rainier National Park has 1.3 million visitors each year. The park contains 368 square miles, with the Wonderland hiking trail going around the park. Mt. Rainier is part of the Cascade range and stands 14,410 feet high and has 26 glaciers. The most popular visitor areas are Sunrise and Paradise, both covered with subalpine wildflowers in July and August. There are many hiking trails and beautiful waterfalls to visit, some right along the road that winds around the Eastern and Southern borders of the park.
