  • This is an oil painting I did the day of my wedding. It was a class I was taking and the instructor knew I was getting married that afternoon. So he had the class paint as fast as they could, he said it will come out better then spending a lot of time on it. Well, he was right! All the paintings in the class turned out so beautiful and it took us 2 hours and I was off at noon to get ready for my wedding. This was the happiest day of my life! We were married in the little church in the Garden of the Gods. The most beautiful place on the earth. When I brought my painting home my husband was amazed and loved the picture. To this day we cherish this picture the most. It was in July and the flowers were blooming and there in the back drop was Pikes Peak covered with snow. A day of beauty, with love in our hearts, no wonder this painting turned out so good. This original picture is not available for sale. You can also visit my website: www.RedfishArtwork.com

  • All through the ages pools, lakes, sacred wells and springs have all been invested with magical properties and believed to be the dwelling places of the gods. Water is a universal symbol for the Soul and is represented by different moods and qualities. It can be gentle like rain and as hard as ice. In this painting using wax the Water Bird has arrived, to be refreshed and to return to its real state of purity by washing away the debit of the past. Encaustic wax

  • Sunsets at Menindee Lakes can be awesome. / (803 views) / Giclee Reproductions are available: visit www.suehodge.com.au / For more prints by Sue Hodge visit: http://ochresands.redbubble.com The following is from the NSW Tourism website: / http://www.visitnsw.com/town/Menindee/Menindee_Lake_System/info.aspx The Menindee Lakes System begins on the Darling River about 200 kilometres upstream from the junction of the Darling and Murray rivers at Wentworth. There are four main lakes, Lake Menindee, Lake Cawndilla, Lake Pamamaroo, and Lake Wetherell created from a series of natural depressions that filled during floods. The Menindee Lakes and Darling River were a lifeline for early explorers and it was thought the Darling would provide a means to develop Australia’s interior. The flows of the river proved to be unreliable causing difficulties with navigation and water supply and the idea of using the Menindee Lakes for water conservation was born in the late 1890s. Today the lakes and dams create a welcome water haven in the arid Outback landscape as well as a bird-watchers paradise where bird watching tours are highly recommended.

  • The Lady of the Lake / Mixed Medium / The Lady of the Lake was the ruling Priestress of Avalon and is know as Viviane, Nyneve, she was Fay not mortal. As a young girl she enchanted Merlin who taught her all his secrets, she later became the foster mother to Sir Lancelot. King Arthur had fought a long battle and would not have lived save for Merlin who brought the King to a hermit who had studied the art of healing, and cured all his wounds in three days. As they rode together Arthur said, ‘I have no sword,’ but Merlin bade him be patient and he would soon give him one. / In a little while they came to a large lake, and in the midst of the lake Arthur beheld an arm rising out of the water, holding up a sword. ‘Look!’ said Merlin, ‘that is the sword I spoke of.’ ‘That is the Lady of the Lake,’ said Merlin, ‘and she is coming to you, and if you ask her courteously she will give you the sword.’ / So when the maiden drew near Arthur saluted her and said, ‘Maiden, I pray you tell me whose sword is that ? / I wish it were mine, for I have lost my sword. / ‘That sword is mine, King Arthur,’ answered she, and I will give it to you, if you in return will give me a gift when I ask you. / ‘By my faith,’ said the King, ‘I will give you whatever gift you ask.’ / ‘Well,’ said the maiden, ‘get into the barge and row yourself to the sword, and take it and the scabbard with you.’ For this was the sword Excalibur. ‘As for my gift, I will ask it in my own time.’ As they rode the King looked lovingly on his sword, which Merlin saw, and, smiling, said, Which do you like best, the sword or the scabbard? ‘I like the sword,’ answered Arthur. ‘You are not wise to say that,’ replied Merlin, ‘for the scabbard is worth ten of the sword, and as long as it is buckled on you you will lose no blood, however sorely you may be wounded.” / Available as an art print, card, canvas, mounted print and poster. / Image copyright © 2009 Shanina Conway. / Copying and displaying or redistribution of this image without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited /

  • Softly, as in a morning sunrise / The light of love comes stealing / Into a new born day—oh / Flaming with all the glow of sunrise / A burning kiss is sealing / The vow that all betray / For the passions that thrill love / And lift you high to heaven / Are the passions that kill love / And let you fall to hell / So ends the story / Softly, as in an evening sunset / The light that gave you glory / Will take it all away I was listening to this wonderful song and I had to do a painting in response to the lyrics…written by Hammerstein and Romberg, the song was recorded by every one under the sun…poignant and heartbreaking, it has always resonated with me…I hope the painting does the same with you. • This is one of my own favourite paintings. I did it over 20 years ago and takes prode of place in my Lounge room. I painted it off a photo my dad took on my parents first trip. A few years later I was able to go there myself and find the spot and take my own picture, mine was not as appealing as dad’s as the mountains did not have the nice layered look as this one. Painted in Oils.

  • As I was painting this abstract, I pondered the many meanings to the word “approach”...for example there is…. / The simple act of drawing near…. / A way, passage, or avenue by which a place or buildings can be approached; an access. / The temporal property of becoming nearer in time..e.g. “the approach of winter” / The final path followed by an aircraft as it is landing… / My painting is mainly concerned with the last two…I wanted to evoke both meanings of the word…it is the final curtain of autumn and winter is fast approaching..pockets of red and orange gleam here and there, as autumn stubbornly defies the chill, but at night the icy fingers of winter touches everything with frost..in the countryside snow drifts casually down, as if refusing to admit it’s here for good…another look at the painting evokes the final approach to land…stars twinkle in the night sky, the land shows the last vestiges of fall and the approach of winter….we are excited, relieved to have made it home safely once more... Watercolour on Aquaboard The half-stripped trees / struck by a wind together, / bending all, / the leaves flutter drily / and refuse to let go / or driven like hail / stream bitterly out to one side / and fall / where the salvias, hard carmine— / like no leaf that ever was— / edge the bare garden. William Carlos Williams / A Conjunction of Elements / After The Harvest / There’s A Light in the Darkness / Midnight on Egdon Heath / Reflected Glory / Tightwire / Realities
