Oil painting
© Claire McAdams / ALL RIGHTS RESERVED Took this the same day as “Lady.” I added the blue hue in photoshop and loved how dark it looked.
Worth going to the larger view – lots more stars. / I shot this in winter under a full moon at about midnight at Lake Eucumbene in the Snowy Mountains, Australia. This was my first shoot outside at night in winter. It was minus 5 degrees and when I got back home and my fingers started to thaw out I couldn’t believe the pain – Lesson 1 for winter night shots – wear mittens at the very least! / These trees were drowned along with a whole valley to create a man-made lake as part of a hydro scheme in the 1950s. They’ve resurfaced as a result of a drought we’ve been having for the last few years courtesy of global warming.
This shot was taken at the Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs, CO. The most amazing electrical storm came through. It was quite a ways in the distance. The cloud coverage was interesting which sat low over our heads. Lightning flashed about every three seconds. It was truly spectacular. It never rained where I was standing. Noise Reduction software applied due to the high ISO setting. I put the camera on a tripod and kept clicking. The pool house was in the foreground and Cheyenne Mountain in the background.
This is the only poem I could ever imagine with this piece ‘Into The Night’.. The writer is also someone I consider my mentor and friend.. Her writing touches me deeply and I am in awe as she continues to produce some of the finest poetry I have ever read.. You can see her work here; Lianne Into The Night In energetic youth, this rushing river of my life / leapt headlong from its source, raced me down / the rapids of relationships and ruined dreams / Unseasoned and intemperate, / I breathed the spray of heedlessness and / learned to laugh at risk, to claim an intoxicating fix from / broaching rocky outcroppings that this river, in its conceit, / cleft open wide and left behind my wake. / Skimming fast, it carried me past / treacherous shoals, carving easily wide canyons / through shallow minds and permeable pursuits. But other rivers merged with mine, / and steady, deep, persistent, drove me / beyond the gorges we together forged / into this safely, sheltered harbor / where no heady currents hurried me. / Stagnating, I strained at bindings / of knotty conformities, of land-locked hearts / and tightly anchored spirits. / Now the Naiad calls me yet again, / I hear her current humming, / ‘Come swiftly, come be one with me; / we’ll shoot the rapids, navigate cascades, / together brave love’s whirlpools and eddies / waiting just beyond the bend.’ / Eager now, I slip the tangled, fraying ropes, / and seeing clear her current flow / by softly filtered moonlight, / I launch my craft undaunted, and / follow her fearlessly into the night.

Storms are intense…sometimes they are dark gloomy and ugly… but this picture suggests otherwise.

Sunsets at Menindee Lakes can be awesome. Giclee Reproductions are available: visit www.suehodge.com.au / For more prints by Sue Hodge visit: http://ochresands.redbubble.com The following is from the NSW Tourism website: / http://www.visitnsw.com/town/Menindee/Menindee_Lake_System/info.aspx The Menindee Lakes System begins on the Darling River about 200 kilometres upstream from the junction of the Darling and Murray rivers at Wentworth. There are four main lakes, Lake Menindee, Lake Cawndilla, Lake Pamamaroo, and Lake Wetherell created from a series of natural depressions that filled during floods. The Menindee Lakes and Darling River were a lifeline for early explorers and it was thought the Darling would provide a means to develop Australia’s interior. The flows of the river proved to be unreliable causing difficulties with navigation and water supply and the idea of using the Menindee Lakes for water conservation was born in the late 1890s. Today the lakes and dams create a welcome water haven in the arid Outback landscape as well as a bird-watchers paradise where bird watching tours are highly recommended.
Another Nightscape I took some weeks ago. Don’t be fooled, it was a cold night even in Queensland terms. No Filter used, no HDR. It’s kind of a strange feeling being out there at night in such a bizzare landscape… ISO200 / f7,1 / 72sec / 5D
Something a little different from me. Took this over the lake. It’s lights reflecting in the water. I liked the colour.

This oil painting was inspired by traveling in Portland, Oregon last Christmas during the worst white out in 40 years. The awesome quite and stillness of winter with it’s snow blanket drifitng in the breeze and the nightly shawdows on the water invites mystery and quiet contemplation.
featured in Globes,Spheres&Curves 10-28-2009 / featured in SOLO-EXHIBITION 10-19-2009 An exquisite flower opens, in I Belong to You by Desirée Glanville, to reveal a / huge silvery perl– certainly a priceless treasure. Its antithesis, a gazing ball, / popular in Victorian and modern gardens, is suspended above it. Perhaps / hinting at the subliminal message, the gazing ball mirrors a very real world with tree, water, and sky; / rather than the ideal fantasy that we see before us. / Tiny remnants of petals float in the blue, luminous atmosphere. Desirée has repeated their skeletal / veins in the lower petals of the central flower; so that we know the air is filled with petals pulled from / the larger one. Was this a “He Loves me, he loves me not” scenario—a child’s game with Daisies that / gets replayed in various intonations when we are adults? The video accompanying the piece is a track, “I Belong to You”, from British alternative rock band, / Muse, from their album, The Resistance, released in Europe mid September 2009. / Remembering that the ultimate key to unlock the mystery of Glanville’s art is in the paired music, / it’s of importance that the song and lyrics regard one who travels half the world to tell their muse “I / Belong to You”. / Mid-song, from this British band, are French verses, sung with such emotion to melt the soul. / They are borrowed from Camille Saint-Saëns’ opera, “Samson and Delilah”. / Delilah sings these verses to seduce Samson, in a famous aria in Act II, “Mon coeur s’ouvre ta / voix” (“My heart opens itself to your voice”, or commonly “Softly awakes my heart”). / Ah! réponds à ma tendresse! / Verse-moi, verse-moi l’ivresse! / translated: / Ah! respond to my tenderness! / Fill me with ecstasy! / It’s uncertain, here, whether Desirée is presenting the side of the muse as a reaction to the / overtures, or the perspective of the one presenting overtures of tenderness to their heart’s desire. / It could be either or both, probably determined by the perspective of the viewer. / This is where fine art brings the viewer in as co-artist, to complete the work. Desirée seems to me / to have accomplished that spiritual merger here. / Either way, Desirée has input in the matter. Remember the gazing ball in the garden. It never lies. / Despite our fantasy and what we want things to be, there is also reality to deal with. * featured in* SOLO EXHIBITION 19-25 Oct 2009 / featured in I Got the Music in Me 10-12-2009 / featured in Abstract Digital Art&Writing 10-05-2009 / featured in The World as We See it 10-04-2009 When these pillars get pulled down, / It will be you who wears the crown, / And I’ll owe everything to you How much pain has cracked your soul? / How much love could make you whole? / You’re my guiding lightning strike I can’t find the words to say, / But they’re overdue, / I’ve travelled half the world to say, / I belong to you Then she attacks me like a Leo, / When my heart is split like Rio, / But, I assure you my debts are real I can’t find the words to say, / When I’m confused, / I’ve travelled half the world to say, / You are my mu- (Ah! Taken at Seneca Lake in New York state taken by Lina Paul and Dj We all met for the day at Watkins Glen State park. Afterward we tried to capture the sunset on Seneca Lake but we were late. Lina, was sneaky when taking this because I had no clue what she was doing and she was so excited that I didn’t move. LOL
I keep coming back to photos from my trip down south, to the desert, back in June. This is another image from the Salton Sea…The clouds and reflections were so amazing….couldn’t let this one just stay buried in my computer forever!
