This is another addition to my Custom Pet Portrait Series… Shelbi belonged to fellow RB’er Kristina K. and I asked if I might draw this portrait mostly to help preserve the memory of this beloved companion that traveled over the Rainbow Bridge…the other part was a thank you for all of the calendars and cards Kristina has purchased from my collection. An original Pastel, Prismacolor Pencil, Pen and Ink drawing. Drawn on card stock, bonded, acid free, low tooth artist drawing paper. I use a bonded paper with low or no tooth for the smooth blending abilities and so the pastels are not chewed up during the drawing process. Thank your for viewing my art. Chalk pastel on watercolour paper (WIP). Featured in Woman Appreciation. / Featured in Alphabet Soup (Letter L). This is a collaboration with two very special friends of mine, whom I originally met on another website. The inspiration for this piece is a photograph by Mark, complemented by a poem written especially to go with it, by our friend Kristina ... Strong like steel / Breaking through the wind / Forcing it’s way through the past / On to the future / A bond so volatile, so feared / A link, to join us all / We face the world and smile / We feel the barbs and spikes / We surround ourselves with white light / And drift in to the fate we have been given / United in love and hate / United in art and words / Unbroken, unaltered, unforgiven / We are the link
Pastel on watercolour paper. Featured in 1 on 1: The Fine Art of Portraiture. / Featured in Works on Paper. Although my collaborating partners didn’t feel it was necessary, I needed to complete this piece … I have been fortunate to have done several collaborations with Mark, and I have never changed his compositions. I don’t intend on starting now :-) Poem by Kristina Strong like steel / Breaking through the wind / Forcing it’s way through the past / On to the future / A bond so volatile, so feared / A link, to join us all / We face the world and smile / We feel the barbs and spikes / We surround ourselves with white light / And drift in to the fate we have been given / United in love and hate / United in art and words / Unbroken, unaltered, unforgiven / We are the link
Camera.Sony A200 / lens 55-200 / Taken at Melbourne Zoo Victoria Australia 11.08.09 The red panda is dwarfed by the black-and-white giant that shares its name. These pandas typically grow to the size of a house cat, though their big, bushy tails add an additional 18 inches (46 centimeters). The pandas use their ringed tails as wraparound blankets in the chilly mountain heights. The red panda shares the giant panda’s rainy, high-altitude forest habitat, but has a wider range. Red pandas live in the mountains of Nepal and northern Myanmar (Burma), as well as in central China. These animals spend most of their lives in trees and even sleep aloft. When foraging, they are most active at night as well as in the gloaming hours of dusk and dawn. Red pandas have a taste for bamboo but, unlike their larger relatives, they eat many other foods as well—fruit, acorns, roots, and eggs. Like giant pandas, they have an extended wrist bone that functions almost like a thumb and greatly aids their grip. They are shy and solitary except when mating. Females give birth in the spring and summer, typically to one to four young. Young red pandas remain in their nests for about 90 days, during which time their mother cares for them. (Males take little or no interest in their offspring.) The red panda has given scientists taxonomic fits. It has been classified as a relative of the giant panda, and also of the raccoon, with which it shares a ringed tail. Currently, red pandas are considered members of their own unique family—the Ailuridae. Red pandas are endangered, victims of deforestation. Their natural space is shrinking as more and more forests are destroyed by logging and the spread of agriculture. Info Taken from National Geographic website Photos by Kristina K / /

Lomo capture November 2009 Sag Harbor, Long Island, NY Titled Serendipity because this leaf fell on my windshield as I was driving to work. I pulled over and had just enough time to snap the shot before the wind took it away again! I spent the rest of the day looking for pretty leaves and nice places to park to try and recreate the shot. (One of the better shots from that attempt can be seen below.) But, of all the photos I took, my “Serendipty” moment turned out the best! Canon Rebel xt

Julia and Nina showing the true meaning of “Puppy Love”! Nina is our 10 month old American Staffordshire Terrier aka “Pitbull” rescue pup. She came into our lives emaciated, weak and covered in scars and ticks. I knew nothing about Pitbulls besides what I had heard/seen in the media, all negative. My daughter wanted her so badly that I finally agreed to adopt her. Nina has opened my eyes to the truth about Pitbulls! She is the kindest, gentlest, sweetest, cuddliest dog I have ever met. I am thankful every day that she is a part of our lives and cannot imagine ever being without her! 10% of all income from my Pitbull related artwork goes to Pitbull Rescue Central.
