I’ve had Kraken on the mind a little bit lately, so have ended up with this image and my Kraken story. This image isn’t painting a scene from the story, as I didn’t have a commercial fishing ship image to play with (that’s okay, I’m not looking for one…!)

Pair of cuttlefish. Taken on a night dive at Port Stephens, NSW, Australia. Cuttlefish change colour/pattern to communicate, camoflauge themselves and intimidate predators. These two are using two different patterns.
The giant cuttlefish is a large species that lives around southern Australia. Full size males can reach a metre in length.
Uploaded for a challenge, no need to comment I just made this photo last week, without knowing that this challenge for gold and silver things was coming up. I wanted to make a new shot of this creation in order to put it up for sale in my jewellery Etsy shop. It is one of my miniature sculptures, which can also be worn as pendant, knitted and crocheted with very thin 14K gold-filled wire. The eyes are made of two 4mm garnets (pink ruby colour), and the golden beast is trying to sink the Black Pearl pirate ship. The latter is also crocheted with sterling silver wire and decorated with black peacock freshwater pearls, then heavily oxydized for a worn and crusty look. Focal length 44mm / ISO-100 / Aperture f/7,1 / Shutter 1/100 sec. Shot in aperture priority, on a black granite tile (with some gray speckles) / Nikon D60 / AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G VR Featured in the group Statues and Such on April 18, 2009
