I wanted to capture the steam flowing upward to the colder fall air.. The big Koi pond holds its heat longer than the others so this provided a chance to see the sun rays passing threw its morning awake.. Resized 12-13-2007

I got sick of beakfaces and lizards momentarily and decided to paint some fishies – literally, goldfish…I’ve applied patches of gold leaf to their little heads. Despite being distracted by Eurovision I managed to finish it this weekend!! This one will probably be at Brunswick St Gallery in their small works show, June 6th. About 20×20cm, watercolour, chalk pastel etc on canvas. These enlargements are bigger than life size:

A Japanese restaurant complex near by Tokyo, Mount Takao. In this restaurant each table has it`s own private room. There are around 90 private dining rooms in this restaurant and all are placed aaround streams and ponds, cherry blossoms tress, winding lanes and Japanese bridges overlooking the mountains. At night lanterns and flames light up the area. / This is one of the private dining rooms, if you look closely you can see the koi in the water below the room.

This was a small Pond outside of an African Preserve in Florida. These are Koi. / Some Info / The word “koi” comes from the Japanese, simply meaning “carp.” It includes both the dull grey fish and the brightly colored varieties. A homophone of koi means “love, affection” and koi are therefore symbols of love and friendship in Japan: a good example is the short story Koi-san by Mukoda Kuniko.

In an enormous Lily Pond in the gardens at Raby Castle, it was almost full of Water Lilies, but in the small gaps were a lot of Koi. / Again, straight from the camera.
