  • Shot of a Kittiwake (Larus tridactyla) , at its nesting site. This photo is one of several I took of the different seabirds found at the RSPB nature reserve at Bempton Cliffs in the UK. This small gull had just arrived back at the nest and seemed to have a confused look on its face, hence the title. This bird is one of the most maritime of the gulls, spending its entire life out at sea, only coming to land in the breeding season, in large and noisy colonies.

  • Shot of a Kittiwake (Larus tridactyla), at its empty nest site. This shot was taken at the RSPB nature reserve in the UK. The lack of eggs or young in the nest was a sign of the bad breeding season all the seabirds at this reserve where experiencing. I spoke to one of the wardens who told me that bad weather, in April and the beginning of May, was responsible for the failure of quite a few of the nests.
