This public installation ‘Eos’ greets visitors entering Columbus, Indiana. / —-—-—-——- / Dessa Kirk, a Chicago sculptor known for making large-scale lilies and depictions of women from Greek mythology, is the creator of ‘Eos,’ a steel & fiberglass installation. ‘Eos’created in2006, was a gift to the city of Columbus, Indiana from the citizens. One of the overlying themes in Kirk’s work is finding the hidden beauty in ugliness, and she often makes her pieces from scraps of discarded Cadillac cars. Her sculptures are huge & rugged looking, ranging from raw to elegant as you can see from the capture. This installation is massive and sits in the median of the street in Columbus overlooking the drive into the city and Mill Race Park. This is part of my series & interpretations on public art installations

Got it in the post this afternoon… I thought it would be a great way of getting exposure for important causes and the artists that make the messages of conscience in visual arts. I have seen members of the redbubble community go above and beyond for raising their voice when they felt strongly about something, it’s one of the affirming things about humanity for me. So… With the Art: Action Without Violence Group in mind I decided to apply for a rather hefty grant through the *JB Seed Grant Fund... if the application is successful (fingers crossed) we can print 10,000 post cards distributed in 125 venues promoting 4 ethical and important organisations, 4 pieces of work and 4 Redbubble artists… I thought, seeing as it drove me a little crazy this week, that I would put up the artist profile part of the submission to say thanks to the other participants for their involvement. Thank you!!!

When Odysseus landed on her island she transformed his men into animals, but with the help of the god Hermes, he overcame the goddess and forced her to release his men from her spell. Kirke’s name was derived from the Greek verb kirkoô meaning “to secure with rings” or “hoop around”—a reference to her magical powers. / / Kirke’s island of Aiaia was located in the farthest west, on the boundary between the sea and the river Okeanos which encircled the earth.
