10×14 watercolor enhanced colored pencil. The original is sold. / A double portrait of the North American Cougar.. truly a beautiful cat, even if it is a little on the bland side. Did you know that cougar’s purr? It’s a wonderful sound. On this particular piece, the color washes really helped bring out the cats coloring without having to break my arm with the pencils. The cougar (Puma concolor), also puma, mountain lion, catamount, or panther, is a mammal of the Felidae family, native to the Americas. This large, solitary cat has the greatest range of any wild terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere, extending from Yukon in Canada to the southern Andes of South America. An adaptable, generalist species, the cougar is found in every major New World habitat type. It is the second heaviest cat in the New World, after the jaguar, and the fourth heaviest in the world, after the tiger, lion, and jaguar, although it is most closely related to smaller felines. A capable stalk-and-ambush predator, the cougar pursues a wide variety of prey. Its primary food is ungulates such as deer, particularly in the northern part of its range, but it hunts species as small as insects and rodents. It prefers habitats with dense underbrush for stalking, but it can live in open areas. The cougar is territorial and persists at low population densities. Individual territory sizes depend on terrain, vegetation, and abundance of prey. While it is a large predator, it is not always the dominant species in its range, as when it competes for prey with animals such as the gray wolf. It is a reclusive cat and usually avoids people. Attacks on humans remain rare, despite a recent increase in frequency. Due to persecution as a dangerous pest animal following the European colonization of the Americas, and continuing human development of cougar habitat, populations have dropped in many parts of its historical range. In particular, the cougar was extirpated in eastern North America, except an isolated sub-population in Florida; the animal may be recolonizing parts of its former eastern territory. With its vast range, the cougar has dozens of names and various references in the mythology of the indigenous peoples of the Americas and in contemporary culture. (info from Wikipedia)

This is our sweet kitty, Hershey Kisses. I named her that because she loves to give kitty kisses and when I first found her she was the color of white chocolate. This photo was snapped on a whim, just as she was waking up from one of her many naps. —-—- Hershey has been entered into The Humane Society of the United States’ Spay Day USA Pet Photo Contest. Please vote for me! —-—- Ever since I was a child, animals have been my passion. My one real dream in life is to someday open my own animal sanctuary. As it is now, I only wish my home were as big as my heart. When I’m not caring for strays I’m working on designs for various animal rights issues. This photo is one example of something I have used on several products, including stamps, with the text “Save a life… adopt!” to promote pet adoption. Animals and their welfare are something I take very seriously; and in the past people have said it’s my religion. I can’t argue with that. / / —-—- / / _If you care about animals the way I do, please check out our new group Voices for Animals —-—- Cards – Best of the Best Category: Pets
This small watercolor pencil study (5” x 7”) is a portrait of our collie/Australian Blue Heeler named Shadow, the wonder dog. She is as sweet and as smart as they come and not only herds other dogs, but has learned how to clean and drop into the recyling bin any small plastic food containers.
I have always assumed that raccoons live just about everywhere. However, they are found in most of the United States except for parts of the Rocky Mountains, central Nevada, Utah and Arizona. They are also found in southern Canada and from Mexico to northern South America. Photographed at Juniper Springs Wilderness Preserve, located in the Ocala National Forest, Florida. They have one of the best canoe runs in Florida there for those who like it! Also from Juniper Springs Wilderness Preserve / /
Uh oh…. the stripy ones have spotted us
Meerkats are so cute to observe. This little one was photographed at the Melbourne Zoo.
I was driving along side some of the many paddocks that frequent my area (the Hawkesbury area) when I came across this cow, the light seemed to be pretty decent and seeing as how the cow was a few metres away I decided it would be a good opportunity to test out my new 55-200mm lens.. / The cow just would not look at me (unusual for a cow) and then finally it decided to sneak a glance so I snapped the shutter and this was the result.. / Post processing involved adjusting the exposure, contrast and levels, and then applying a vignette and a monochrome filter. / I havent uploaded anything for quite some time so I decided to throw this image to the wind and see if it flies or crashes and burns.. / As per usual comments and critiquing are more than welcome, and thanks very much for taking a look! This doe stopped long enough to have her picture taken. I was in my truck when I came onto her. She meandered over to the side of the road I inched forward enough to get a pic of her and she just stood ther waiting while I turned my camera on and adjusted it. I got a couple of shots and then she left. She had had enough of that silliness, I guess. Taken on Tinton Road just outside of Spearfish in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Taken today 4-17-2008.
The kea is the only true alpine parrot in the world. It lives only in the New Zealand alps. This photo was taken at the Fox glacier car park in the South Island. Keas will often come to public places like this and wreck cars by ripping apart roof racks or anything rubber.
Lots of my costumers ask what t does the eye represents. / I tell´em the representation comes from the viewer but they don´t get to happy, / to me can be a giant animal or god a communication between two specimens / what does it mean to you?
