  • Scot with attitude. This man is wearing a tartan Kilt, Tam and Sporran. Text says Up Yer Kilt.

  • A small waterfall into the sea, with Kilt Rock in the background (named because of it’s appearance, which really does look like a carefully pleated kilt), Isle of Skye, Scotland. Sometimes referred to in Gaelic poetry and song as Eilean a’ Cheò (The Misty Isle), Skye is renown for its natural beauty, history and wildlife. Related shots can be found at Skye shots or Highland Scotland shots. Best viewed Larger.

  • This old soldier, told tales of of glory of Scottish HIghlander soldiers also the history of Scottish weaponry. Now if you are scottish can you guess the clan and what Highland military unit he was from ?

  • Dont ask me about this one, I just kind of had the image bouncing around in my head. Its random, I know, and doesn’t really make any sense. I dont even know what the character thing is. Some kind of sausage I guess, maybe a hagas. / Still if you like random I guess this shirt does it.

  • My mean spirited Scotish friend says “Women wear skirts, NOT kilts.” So I am sad…............for about a moment while I put on my kilt and then thumb my nose! Rules, meant to be broken, indeed!

  • An illustration for a story I am about to post about a woman in her kilt and a man…

  • Kilt Rock – Isle of Sky / We rented a cottage on the Isle of Skye near the village of Staffin. / Kilt rock was just up the road from us so off we went for an early morning shot of this magnificent waterfall. / Fortunately it was a very calm morning with the sea hardly moving and just a very light breeze. / From these ancient cliffs the waterfall crashes 200ft to the rocks below in the Sound of Raasay.

  • Located on the east coast of Skye’s Trotternish Peninsula, the striking rock formation known as Kilt Rock is a 200 foot high sea cliff. The massive columns of dolerite have the appearance of pleats in a tartan kilt. This entirely natural phenomenon is similar to the basalt rocks at Staffa near Iona. / A burn (river) comes off the Trotternish ridge and flows directly out over the edge of the cliffs and into the sea sometimes in spectacular fashion.

  • Kilt Rock in Skye is a popular tourist spot and this shot has been taken many times before, but it is a spectacular view and worth taking in different light.

  • Spotted on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh during the Festival in August 2008.

  • Warriors of the Celtic persuasion.

  • Walking around Edinburgh with Chris Clark we heard the pipes and rushed up to the High Street to find the Pipes and Drums of Lothian & Borders Police leading a march followed by The Royal Company of Archers. Here you can see the Pipe Band as they pass by St. Giles Cathedral. The band is one of the world’s oldest pipe bands and was known for many years as the Edinburgh City Police Pipe Band. The band currently competes in grade 1 at Major Championships run by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Society as well as local highland games and Lothian and Borders branch contests. The band has travelled extensively and has in the past taken part in many high profile events and shows such as the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, both at Edinburgh Castle and more recently in Sydney Australia, as well as the Halifax International Tattoo, Nova Scotia, Estes Park Tattoo, Colorado and the Danish Military Tattoo in Herning, Denmark. Camera: Canon EOS 450D (Digital Rebel XSi in the USA) BEST VIEWED LARGER Related shots can be found at: Edinburgh. Click here for a random page of photographs

  • Cockburn Street ,Edinburgh.

  • This is my homage to Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797 – 1861) one of the leading Ukiyo-e artists of the late Edo period in 19th century Japan. Among his favourite subjects were cats. This illustration featuring cats having a highland fling is fantastic in its depiction of character both feline and human. I’ve puzzled over how the artist could recreate the energy of Scottish highland dress and dance so faithfully (check out the tartan and bonnets!), bearing in mind that Japan was still a feudal state and a closed book to foreigners. Incredibly Utagawa must have seen Scots dancing a highland fling. He did own a collection of Western engraving prints – perhaps he saw a depiction of the dance in one of these…? Whatever, once seen, never forgotten. Here Utagawa translates the verve of the dance as performed by his favourite animals – cats.

  • Please View Large In the opposite direction of this image is Kilt Rock Waterfall one of the only waterfalls I have seen drop directly into the sea. However it was packed with tourists all wanting to get their magic image of the place. So I turned around and saw this wonderful stretch of coastline in NW Skye. • Please View Large Looking in the opposite direction when the tourists had all long gone, it was time for me to get some images of this magical waterfall located very close to Kilt Rock on the Isle Of Skye.
