Here in the RedBubble office we’ve been loving the range of your work and your diverse backgrounds. Some of you are studying, others are creative professionals, some have just stumbled across creative skills and passions after years working in other fields, and others are becoming so addicted to your creative hobbies they are starting to take over! Do you wish you’d backed your creative talents earlier in your life and career? Or do you think it is better to build up a solid backup plan and then explore your creative potential once you have established some security? As Edith Piaf would sing “non je ne regrette rien” – regret nothing – but what advice would you give your kids? Chase the dream 100% or nurture the hobby?

  • / Hi, some of you may know I have many shots in my folio shot in some of the poorest parts of Africa. I am pleased to say that one of my travelling companions Rebecca Zachariah has joined RB and has started uploading her shots. In Africa Bec & I discussed at length our desire for people to see the harsh reality of life there. We saw hundreds of people traumatised by war, AIDS and otherwise preventable disease. Some of these shots and stories are not for the faint hearted but they are for the warm hearted. I encourage you to check out Bec’s work. As I say, it’s brutally honest. But we believe incredibly necessary.

SUPER EDIT: A small women’s T is fine, says tambatoys / EDIT: Oh no they’re gone now you missed out :( Due to production issues after next week you won’t be able to buy a fitting t-shirt for your young ones. I’m guessing no one really cares about this except me. The reason being they are the only things I sell. So go and buy a panda for your child now. Thank you. With stick / Without stick

My wife and daughter have been ok’d to journey with to Peru this summer to help build an orphanage for the Garbage Dump Kids of Trujillo. Being a nurse my wife will be doing mecial checkups for the kids. Needless to say we have a lot of money to raise between now and July so all my sales from now until then will be donated to Amp-up which is the Youth Group organzing this trip and the building of the orphanage. I beleive this to be a huge opportunity for growth for our family. Please keep my two favorite ladies in your prayers. Thanks Mike

Hey all, I’m looking to illustrate a kid’s book.. a Monster ABC. I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and originally I was planning on doing the art in my usual vector style eg. Clive the Bunyip However, while as an adult I do love the clean lines and bright colours vector art gives me, I know kids books in general tend more towards the texture and visual richness of traditional art styles, paint and pencil and the like. My latest illustration, as well as being an entry into the Drawing Day challenge, was a chance for me to experiment with a more painterly style. A friend suggested that the painted work is more warm and friendly, and would be a better style for kids. The downside is it’s very new to me, so I’ll have to learn techniques and try to improve as I go. That illustration was done very quickly while our baby was sleeping, so it’s a bit messier than I’d be looking at anyway. So here is my question. Which style is better? The vector art is good because it’s bright, and I’m comfortable with the style – the work will be more polished and cleaner. The painted style has greater depth and warmth to it, although it’s not as finished and I would need to learn a lot as I go. Or I could do something in between.. clean vector lines like ink with painted colours for the texture. What do you think?

I can’t stand this anymore, this waiting that life puts you through.. im tired of watching others do all the things that i wish to do! But then life gets in the way and it stops me, just dropping me beneath my dream! School is one big and clear example.. i know iv only got two months left of it but seriously! the emas and things that i need to get out my way before i can do what i want to do! / And then of course i still have to study and get a profession before i can just be… well at least i am aiming for something thats active! Journalism… with photography! You see, i want to help (save) the world.. i see so many things everyday on television in newspapers, on the radio that just break my heart… it breaks my heart that there are children out me who don’t get food for they don’t have parents or an income.. there are children who have to carry around guns for stupid people commiting actions that are somthing of nightmares. Ther are children who don’t have homes or families and only one change of clothing and here i sit with more shoes than there entire communty put together and i don’t even have that many! Its heartwrenching! The future needs to hurry up so i can do something and not just watch on the side lines and like Jack Johnson says, sitting, waiting wishing for something to come along…. I have already started a charity (well sorta, it will be finalised in a couple of months) called K.I.D which stands for Kids In Distress and helps children who have been affected by war and natural disasters and need help getting back their lives. But i havnt been able to complete it for school has prevented me from doing so but then again, my wonderful school Penryn College has given me grounding for this as we are the largest outreach school in Africa and help educate teachers in poor areas on good teaching. But i want to do something more! I watched a documentary tv programme called Carte Blanch tonight and it covers stories we should know about. They covered a story about an organistation called Invisible Children and they are helping children who have been forced into being child soldiers in Uganda.. please support them, its needed! If anyone has any recommended charities that help children that have been hurt by disasters or war, please say so we can support! Thank you

Hi All this is more to get a feel of what other people think of the idea. I went for a drive this afternoon, been in a really contemplative mood the last week, partly inspired by Redbubble. on my way home i started thinking that maybe if given the encouragement ive recieved from the RB community in the last few weeks had been recieved earlier on in life maybe … well no point harping on what isn’t i finally thought ..BUT WHAT IF…. What if Red bubble had a sight devoted to encouraging our younger generation, a sight moderated by artists on the Adult Redbubble, totally seperate though as to not expose the really little ones to some of our art, which is over 18+. Divded into age groups where they can see works by their piers and, learn to critique in a constructive way and learn what community means. In a similar line to our red bubble giving them the opportunity to sell their work as cards… and write their stories and poems and journals… Obviously they would have to have the consent of an adult to post to it so maybe putting a final stopping point an adult needs to co-join with them, and put their password into the program when they post it. (this is more for their safety that way parents always know whats going on… too many weirdos out there we all know this) What do you think. If i approached Redbubble with the suggestion would anyone be interested in Mentoring … like our groups on here …. What do you as a RB community think of a Redbubble_KID_ please post your comments :)

Hi All, / I have a HUGE Favour to ask you all, Please could you VOTE for my cause. I’m trying to get RB to consider opening up a sister site devoted to encouraging our younger generation, those younger than 16. which would be sub divided via groups into age groups, where kids can learn to critique each other without breaking each other down, discover what it means to be part of a community and have access to Mentors and other artists, from RB who can offer their knowledge and encouragement. They can also sell their cards, t-shirts, and calendars teaching them what it feels like to be an out there . The main Objective it to keep it separate from the Adult RB to prevent them seeing undue violence or nudity. I feel so strongly about this idea, I feel we can do so much good for these children. From an Adult who has benefitted so from being on RB for just ONE month. I have been a hermit for the last four years only leaving the house to do things I absolutely had to like go off to work, and do chores like grocery shopping… In one month of posting some of my drawings, photos, poems and journals, I’ve found a world where the real me inside is not shunned, or batted aside. Yes family and friends have said they liked my art, but they unfortunately don’t have a choice , hehe. I feel that had I been given this sort of encouragement as a child, (I’m not saying that I had a bad childhood), and not forcefully guided into what I do for a living now, that I would be a more confident person. What’s happened to me in the last month is nothing short of miraculous, I have an appointment with a college councillor next week to consider going back to school, to take up where I left off in my art and to take up a child care diploma. Please have a listen to Sir Ken Robinson talk on creativity in education, we have at our finger tips the opportunity to help those kids achieve their creative potential. / Please feel free to read my first post suggesting the idea Mentoring and Encouraging generations to come and my second post where I Suggestions for a Redbubble KID, Please Vote posted the suggestion on the Ideas and Suggestions page. / If you feel as I do that we can Help Change how the story goes, please click the link below and VOTE please the more of us who vote the better for all of us. PLEASE ITS FOR THE KIDS: / Below is the code for it. Just copy and paste it into your profile and then remove all of the spaces otherwise you’ll just have a load of code to read. It links straight to the suggestion/idea page :-D / ! http://images-2.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/3819299-2-support-this-please.jpg ! : http://feedback.redbubble.com/pages/3434-feedback/suggestions/324084-what-if-red-bubble-had-a-sight-devoted-to-encouraging-our-younger-generation Thank you sooo sooo much for reading this post I thank you from the bottom of my Heat. • The Luckiest Boy in the World

Earlier today there was a bit of an incident down on my local beach. A small boy got into the family car which was parked on a reasonably steep street across the road from the beach and managed to release the handbrake and knock this brand new Lexus wagon out of gear. The car rather predictably then took off down the street and rolled right out into the busy main road, over the gutter and down another steep driveway then crashed through two fences and go straight over a sheer eight metre cliff straight on to the sands below. The small boy managed to avoid all traffic and pedestrians and steered the car perfectly down the second long narrow driveway and then leapt from the car just seconds before it went airborne over the cliff escaping with a few cuts and bruises. Not such happy news for the car though… that was comprehesively totalled….. / . / This is the street the car had been parked on about 100 metres up the road in a driveway… if you look carefully you can see the tire marks… / . / / . / directly across the busy busy Lawrence Hargrave Drive the car barrelled across was this narrow and steep private driveway and the little lad managed to get the car straight down this before it veered to the right and plowed straight through the two fences….once again if you look really closely you can see the tire marks… / . / / . / another view of the second driveway with it’s now tastefully displaced fencing… / . / / . / and this is where it ended up much to the consernation and general amazment of the local wet ones… / . / / . / yep that’s some ding in the duco….. / . / / . / a better view of the cliff it came down….and this is a really small sort of cliff for around these parts… phew ! / . / / . / fortunately the NRMA will give you a free tow if your car becomes incapacitated although this may have been somewhat streching the friendship a tad… / . / / . / the fella’s had to try a few types of chains and things before getting it hitched up to this nifty little tow truck and my goodness lucky it was low tide is all I can say….. / . / / . / but soon enough the car was hitched and the Lexus was ready for it’s final inglorious tow up the beach to the dead car place….. / . / / . / but have a look at what that bounce down the cliff did to it… can you imagine the fate of the child if he hadn’t have leapt out the open window as the car got to the cliff…. / . / / . / the fire brigade came to give a bit of assistance too and a passing council worker stopped and stood about with his arms crossed looking inscrutable in his fluro jacket which gave the whole scene the perfect gravitas….and so it all went pretty soothly from that point on… / . / / . / at breakfast this was a brand new car the apple of this families eye… by morning tea it was toast…. / . / / . / and off it goes for a slow and scenic beach trip behind the terriffic little tow truck… / . / / . / so what I’m thinking is that this little boy was unbelievably lucky in many many ways… however I’m also thinking that the insurance company may not be too impressed with the concept of shelling out the bones to replace this shiny and very expensive new car…. which could lead to the little lad being put up for rehoming on ebay fairly soon in order to recoup some of the costs involved in this escapde… or maybe being grounded till he’s about eighty and has paid of the staggering debt his folks now have…. luck hey it comes in all sort sof manifestations ….. here is a link to the newspaper story in the Sydney Morning Herald for the full details and there is an updated version of the story here
