While on mission in the Loita Hills of SW Kenya we (Kenya Medical Outreach, Inc.) worked with the Masai tribe remote villages such as Olepatreka and Morijo. There is no electricity, no water infrastructure, no telephone, no paved roads to these places…just dust and wind…and lots of Masai and their cattle. On safari at 4:00 p.m. in the Masai Mara near Fig Tree Lodge, we find our friend Gabriella, sitting in the road, apparently oblivious to our approach. She sauntered off into the grass after walking 20 yards down the path in front of us….a rare event for the illusive leopard.Photo captured with Canon 10D and Canon 300mm Zoom Photo by Dr. Bill Williams, Suwanee Dental Care, Suwanee, GA USA / Director, Kenya Medical Outreach, Inc. / Web: http://www.suwaneedental.com/kenya/safari2007.htm
Every safari ends at sunset on the mara and the best guides find the best shots at that one moment in time when the orange African orb falls to the horizon to usher in the night. Our seven years of safari in the mara have not surpassed this shot with my Canon 10D, 300 mm Zoom Lens and a strategic spot just behind an acacia tree on the mara in 2004. Kipsigi baby in Olmekenyu, Kenya wrapped in knitted purple bonnet to ward off the morning chill. In this 7000 ft elevation village, the mornings are like April in Atlanta, the mist rises up from the valley and reminds us of the Great Smokey Mountain of north Georgia and Tennessee. Our Kenya Medical Outreach team saw this baby for care and could not resist a photo op….one our our most talked about photos of the past six missions to Kenya. Portraits of people are my passion. I love smiles. I love faces. I love the beauty of the human face in all its varieties. This is a lovely Kipsigi child in the small village northwest of Narok, just past Ololongu, called Olmekenyu where we have our mission hospital clinic. At the Mercy Clinic in Olmekenyu, Kenya were many mothers who had brought their babies to see our mission doctors. I snapped this one with my Canon 10D / Canon 35-105 mm Zoom Lens while on my break from the dental clinic.
Just one of many babies carried by Kipsigese mothers to our medical clinic in Olmekenyu, Kenya where we (Kenya Medical Outreach, Inc.) hold a medical / dental clinic each year. This shot was taken with my 10D Canon digital SLR. photo by Dr. Bill Williams / SuwaneeDental.com
