A great morning to be on the lake fishing.
A young colt’s dreams of being a big star like Dad.
A horse standing just inside her barn looking out. I just happened to be passing by and photographed her. There was a foal laying on the ground beside her.
This was taken at the Thunder Over Louisville fireworks show, which is part of the Kentucky Derby festival. At first I was annoyed that these guys were standing in the way…for most of the fireworks, it wasn’t a problem, but when they did the burning cascades over the bridge, they were right there…oy! Now I’m glad they were there…what are your thoughts? Thanks for looking! GOOD FRIDAY MAMMATUS / Photo best viewed large. / / / / / / FEATURED WORKS / “GOOD FRIDAY MAMMATUS” was FEATURED in the group #1 ARTISTS OF RED BUBBLE / / / I took this photo of Mammatus on a Good Friday before Easter in Ashland, Kentucky. The clouds first started rolling in and looked like fluffy white marshmallows. Then in front of the setting sun they dramatically began to change colors. They went from snow white to shades of silvers, pinks, grays, blues and even purples! The colors were quite striking and dramatic; these clouds were nothing like anything I had ever seen before! For a few minutes they turned very dark, and it was a sight I will never forget!! These amazing mammatus clouds lasted about 45 minutes before they exited my area. / / / We were under our second tornado watch of the year, and I found out later that I was standing right under the anvil of a severe thunderhead and that a tornado could have formed at any moment! Luckily for me it didn’t, and I was able to capture some phenomenal, amazing clouds. I can’t quite put it into words other than to say, “I closed my eyes for a few seconds and felt like I had been kissed on my cheek by an angel.” This was one time in my life that I will always remember!!! / / / This photograph of “GOOD FRIDAY MAMMATUS” has won National awards, been published in an Anthology, and has been shown on National television. This image is also featured in several websites and blogs throughout the USA and Australia for educational purposes. / / /

Designer of famous Central Park in NYC, Olmsted was given an entire series of parks to design in Louisville, Kentucky. Louisville’s park system was the last designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and one of only five such systems across the country. Known nationally as the defining park system of his career, it stands today as one of his best-preserved works, reflecting the genius of Olmsted’s vision. In all, Olmsted and his successor firm developed plans for 18 parks and 6 parkways that today comprise Louisville’s historic park system. http://www.olmstedparks.org/
Appalachian life styles from days gone by / This little log cabin restored to it’s original beauty stands along a country road in the western part of Kentucky. The new addition of the air conditioner in the window made me smile. Times have changed alot since the cabin was originally built! It’s hard to believe that one room cabins such as this housed families with several children and Father and Mother in days gone by! Strong family ties were grounded forever in such small living quarters where there was no privacy and one was expected to give “thanks” for simply having a “roof over head” and food on the table. How different are the families of today with each member having their “own room” complete with all the electronics such as computers, TV’s, sound systems, ALL which has enhanced aloneness within the family. Perhaps the old log cabin was NOT such a bad idea after all!

It is located in Flatwoods, Kentucky, in Greenup County, which lies in the northeastern part of the bluegrass state. Many of my relatives live in or just outside of Flatwoods, and my Dad built this one. / / The scenery from this road is almost surreal, it is so beautiful. Surrounding this road are country farms, barns and old churches. This road winds around a gorgeous mountain cloaked with a variety of lush trees and evergreens, whose leaves are radiant in the Fall of the year with brilliant shades of yellow, orange, red, brown and green. / / At the top of the mountain is the end of this magnificent road, which leads to a private, gated mansion that overlooks the entire county. It is very quiet and peaceful there, and everything, including time, seems to stand still on this beautiful road. It is a breath-taking view from the very top, and this is truly my favorite country road!.. / / / To read and learn more about this special country road, / go to:COUNTRY ROAD

This is a waterfall in Eastern Kentucky found after leaving Carter Caves State Park just off the road in a 100’ Gorge , after climbing down to this hidden gem i was only able to catch this one image because of the lighting conditions and time of day. I will definately be returning here during the golden hour!! Nikon D40 18-135mm / Tripod/Polarizing Filter / Featured in the “DSLR Users Only – 3 A Day” Group April 2009 /
These little guys seemed to be enjoying themselves late in the day with the sun getting low in the sky and being filtered out by the trees deep in the wood. I liked the way that the Sun just skipped across them. / Melinda

This photo was shot with my Minolta Maxxum 5D 315mm F13 1/250 with ISO 400. / I was ready for the Full Moon tonight. It has been raining off and on and cloudy here for the last couple of days. So I was hoping to get some shots with clouds in the sky along with the Full Moon. When I pulled up and parked it was still daylight and the Moon was barely visible with only one tiny cloud in the sky close to the Moon. Nothing to get excited about. It didn’t take long for the sky to change however. At first the Moon was very light with almost no color, kind of white to pale yellow. Then things started to change very fast as more and more clouds started to show up, at some times even completely covering the Moon. I thought well Quap! I drove all the way in town and have been sitting here for over an hour and now the darn thing is going to be all covered up. Then some of the clouds started to let the Moon show itself. I quickly called a friend of mine on my cell phone that lives about 80 miles away in Louisville. I told him that the moon was the most beautiful color and he better get outside and try and photo it while he can. He has a nice 500mm lens that translates into a 750mm on his Sony A 700. He said thanks for calling and he would check it out. Then the color of the moon and sky turned the most beautiful, if not strange color, I have seen, I did not change the color at all in this photo. I took so many photos tonight you can’t believe, but this was my favorite. / I have a Minolta Maxxum 7000 35mm that I bought in 1985 but because of the cost of film and printing I had not used for years and started with digital about 7 years ago. I feel like I have forgotten most of what I knew back then. I have a whole system of lenses and filters for that camera and only just found out that I can use all of my lenses on the Minolta two DSLRs or any of the Sony Alpha digital SLRs so I am very lucky that a friend of mine (the friend I called tonight to tell about the Full Moon) gave me this Minolta 5D about 3 weeks ago. What a difference it makes. Thanks Jim!
